I get this frequently - and my little connect thing goes from connected with the little globe to an red x but I am still on the internet. The icons on my chrome start page go from colored to shades of grey.
I click on it, disconnect and reconnect and all is good until it happens again. Usually I don't even notice it until web pages start acting cranky.
It is on WiFi with a strong connection (and I am usually only 10 feet from the router) I am getting ready to update both my modem and router because my ISP is faster than my current modem.
I had the same issue when I was using IE
Currently using Kaspersky Internet Security 2013, Windows Firewall is off / Kaspersky is on.
Any insight into why this happens? Some days it is multiple times and sometimes I go for days without it happening.
Your router is probably malfunctioning. It is dropping signal, overflowing a buffer, going in a loop, has some bad hardware or connections or something. I have seen this before with a belkin router my parents had. I never could get it to stop doing it and finally threw the POS in the garbage and replaced it with a Linksys I installed DD-WRT on and haven't had a problem since.
Limited or no connectivity usually mean there's a local DHCP issue (you don't have local IP). But the part about you still being able to access the internet leads me to believe that it might be something else.
Hmmm - getting a new laptop soon so will check and see. My husband has not noticed any slow downs on his but he went from an OLD Dell desktop - lets see - we bought it when my daughter went to college in 2004, and it found its way back here when she graduated so to him everything is fast. I only notice it when I see a slight bugginess in web page loading. Either way we need a new modem and router to take advantege of ISP speeds.
LOL I telecommute and the current system is so much faster than what the VPN servers do to me, it had not been a high priority.
One of our Dell laptops does that from time to time. It's weird. And I know it's the laptop because all the other wireless devices in the house work (including another computer).
