That's been my experience. Read my recent thread about windows 8. They tell me that there is a way to make it compatible. I haven't tried yet.

I'm having problems with it not being compatible with my printer and digital camera software. Neither company supports windows 8 yet. It's a PITA because I can't use this laptop for much other than surfing the internet. Fortunately I have other laptops and computers, but I'd like to be able to print from this one and load pictures onto it.

And, they may never. Printer, scanner, camera companies are notorious for not providing software updates. They really want you to buy a new product.

But why even block that? I play spider solitare all the time. It's the only game I ever play. Why shouldn't it run on Win8?

Why block ANY of the software? Would the version of word perfect I use run? Would it give me any reason to part with any money to have their useless toy screen I would never use? Especially if it cost me to upgrade other software I use all the time?

The only win8 computer I'd get would be on sale and go straignt to a reinstall of seven. I'm tired of the consumer being jerked around.

These are all good questions. I don't work with the Application side of Microsoft but I can certainly point you to where you can ask your questions: https://support.microsoft.com/contac...cid=sw;en;1539

I don't feel the same way as you do.

False; more people use and buy PCs, and I never worked anywhere that used Macs. Mac desktops are way overpriced for their hardware specs, and I consider Macs JUNK.

Win 8 also got rid of Media Center, which I use for watching TV.

I'd probably try a test Win 8 OS install on a spare hd, just to see how Win 8 works.

Windows 8 is AWFUL!! I have a new laptop that has this operating system. I have brought the laptop back to Best Buy three times now because of weird annoying quirks with this operating system.

Spider does run on Win8. This is a screen shot from my computer:

Let me rephrase, most CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS use macs. Engineers are probably the other group of pc based power users besides gamers, architects too though we're slowly switching over. For us (architects) it's really a matter of software availability, there's no revit or microstation for OSX.

And pc manufacturers tend to cut corners to engineer their products down to a price. Truly comparable pc hardware costs about the same as a mac (ultrabooks vs macbook air for instance.) Also there are no retina display's in pc land either.

I tend to use it as something for a break. I probably have word perfect with a few files loaded and open and a browser. I click on the start and load it from there, play it a few times and usually lose. Then I go back to what I was doing. That would all be done in 'classic mode'. I'd never use metro. Can I do that with this? If not it doesn't matter. If you need metro it wouldn't be there. Why is that large gaudy mess better than an icon on start?
