Are you guys living with relatives in NJ for low cost or free? Is that why the base in NJ, with husband commuting to LI city for Citibank job? Because if you were not living for free in NJ, and his job is decent, I think you'd be happier getting an apt in Queens, and continuing to look for a job within subway commute of the apt in Queens. A person can easily live in NYC without a car, but it's much more difficult to get around without driving outside the city.
I just applied for a job in Bloomfield and I live in Maywood NJ - IF I get the job anyone is free to ride with me- and share gas.. will be commuting daily M-F for at least 6 mos before I would be able to work remote part of the week.... I am unable to relocate right now- one child is a senior in High school and one is dying..besides- beautiful trip- no traffic if you go the right route- feel free to contact me if you want to ride share- drlevinstein@gmail.com- will not know if have the position for at least a few weeks..
It is about 125 miles each way from Maywood, NJ to Bloomfield, CT and there really is no way to avoid traffic. I would encourage you to consider jobs closer to your home. Jay
Working out of Pearl River, NY is a "better" fit for you, in my opinion, simply because if you did know how to drive, it's managable to/from drive from Jersey City (it would be about an hour each way) without disrupting your husband's job in Queens.
CIGNA is also very telework-friendly. Do you know if, after a few months or so, they may be apt to allow you to work remotely? This "privilege" varies depending on the type of job you have, but in contrast to other industries, they are very likely to allow telework.
I know the CIGNA job sounds tempting but wouldn't commute costs cut drastically into your take-home pay? That is something else to think about.
