Yea that CVS is about it, and like you said...limited hours. Downtown is just not a "livable" city yet with all things needed.

It's making strides, but not like Charlotte which has a freakin Home Depot in it's downtown along with major grocer and a gazillion other things to support the 10's of thousands of new construction and residents over the last 10 years.

What's your guys' opinion on Wethersfield and/or Village At Wethersfield apartments?

Wethersfield is a very nice town. It is pretty middle class but does have a lot of very charming neighborhoods. Old Wetherfield has a lot of old homes. I am amazed at how affordable it is. It is convenient to Hartford and has a lot of shopping and entertainment nearby. All in all it is a good place to live.

The Village at Wethersfield is a newer complex located on the Berlin Turnpike adjacent to a highway. It is not bad as long as you are sure the unit you get is not along one of the busy sides of the complex. The area surrounding the Village is not really walkable. There is aa strip shopping center with a supermarket next door but not much else. Jay

If you want anything that resembles "walkable" and "community" and/or "town" that is NOT the place you want to be.

If you want to live there and just commute into your job etc yea, it's okay.

You are basically sandwiched between major thoroughfares, with no walkability, and/or downtown OR even sidewalks to go places. It's simply a people warehouse there. If that's you thing it's fine...but that doesn't sound like what you want IMO.

Yes and no. Lots of the neighborhoods themselves are walkable. As far as what is within walking distance I really don't know. Newington is also in a street grid pattern, much of it anyway, and they do have a Main Street/town center area, if it matters.

No offense but you ever been to where that complex is? It's one of those "what can fit in here" type places IMO. It's miles from any downtown and basically sandwiched between where the Berlin tpk turns into an express way and a major route into Hartford. Do a google map search and check it out.

Thanks for the info all. Yeah, the location looks pretty boring but didn't know if the crime is low/ safe area. At this point, I'm just trying to find good apartment complexes that are within a 15-20 min drive of my new job to check out when I go out to visit. Right now, my short list of apartments is, well, pretty short. I'm just trying to give myself some more options to check out when I'm there.

My list so far is: The Vintage, Lofts at the Mills, Village At Wethersfield, and possibly Lofts at Main and Temple (depending on what units within my price range will even be available). Any other places I should at least look at?

Most apartment complexes are located in suburban areas and are not really in areas that are walkable. Wethersfield itself has sidewalks in many neighborhoods but it does lack a dense downtown area to walk around in. Old Wethersfield comes close but there are only a couple of shops there including a couple of restaurants, a bar and a few small shops. Still it is a nice safe town. Jay

Jay, thanks for the info. Again, I'm ok with that. Ideally, i'd be near more interesting things within walking distance, but at this point, I need to expand my search to just finding nice apartments within a 10 mi bubble of my job. I only have about 3 apartments on my short list and would like to expand that further if possible.

I don't know how much they cost but the "Mansions" in Vernon are nice, and probably will hit your 20min window.

If you go to 30 minutes you can include Ellington which has some decent apartments. But both Vernon and Ellington don't really have "downtowns" and are very suburban in nature.

Have you considered a rental of a condo from a private party? There are some complexes in South Windsor I know people rent out and are nice. Try contacting a local realtor and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.
