I am actually the pregnant wife writing on behalf of my husband. Our sob story is (and we may not be alone), we moved here in January. I then found out immediately afterward I was pregnant! Since then he has applied for many, many jobs. I would say he has easily put in well over 50 applications (Best Buy, Target, TJ Maxx, Fedex, Coke, Pepsi, temp agencies, Comcast, etc.).

He has only yielded a PT job at Home Depot, and it is considerable distance from our home.

Is it really this bad in CT or are we overlooking something? It is tough because he only has an HS diploma and experience in retail (convenience). Then again, I have a masters degree and that actually overqualifies me for most jobs (plus getting a job right in time for my firstborn child is....well, daunting). I have a small work-from-home job, it really doesnt contribute much.

Are you hiring? Is your mom hiring? Seriously, we need leads here! Much appreciated...

IMO there is no such thing as over-qualification. There is, however, such thing as a lack of experience relative to education. A masters cannot hurt you in getting a job. If you are looking at jobs where a masters are not required and you feel it's detrimental to mention, then don't bring it up.

Retail continues to be a hard area to get into in CT. So many people have been out of work for the past few years that regular retail outlets like Fedex, Best Buy, etc. have primarily been hiring people with bachelor's degrees to do basic work. I would recommend connecting with lots of different employment agencies to get anything full-time. Unfortunately, I do not see the job market changing anytime soon. Fairfield County is the easiest place to get a job in the state, and even here my friends who do not have college degrees have to work 2-3 PT jobs to make ends meet.
