Anyone know much about Cheshire? My husband is commuting to Middletown, I'll be staying at home with a little one. Seems like a nice neighborhood... my concern is access to amenities. Want a safe, family friendly town - but also want to be within 10-15 minutes from a Target, not too far from shopping/recognizable chains, etc. I also want to meet other young families! W. Hartford seemed a little out of our price range and tough to find something to rent - we started there and didn't have much luck. Any thoughts would be appreciated, and if we should consider other places, I'm open to that info as well. Thanks!

There are a lot of great towns within commuting distance to Middletown.

Wallingford, Hamden, North Haven, Woodbridge, Bethany, Madison, Westbrook, Old Saybrook, Glastonbury, Farmington.

As for access to amenities, you're better off in a town like Wallingford or Farmington that has lots of retail and is still close to Middletown.

how bout M'town itself? it's close to Rts 9 and 91, and just a short drive to both the Berlin Tpke and the Silas Deane. a Target can be found in Meriden on the way to Cheshire in fact off 691 exit 6. it's not in the mall but very close by..

I agree that you may want to just rent in Middletown at least until you get to know the area better.

Another town you may want to consider is Newington. It is a nice middle class community with a lot of shopping areas (there is even a Target). Neighboring Wethersfield and Rocky Hill would be other options. Jay

Hey Tricia,

Cheshire is a very nice town to live in. There's no big stores really in the town, and they don't let anyone open up and big box stores like target, walmart, home depot, which is in my opinion one of the best things about the town.

Luckily those are around in Southington and Meriden and you can probably get to one of those withing 15-20 minutes depending where you live in Cheshire. If you live on the Waterbury side, you can also quickly get to Stores like Bj's or Costco within a few minutes. There's a Stop and Shot and Everybody's in town for groceries.

Worse part of Cheshire is the traffic in the morning and night time on route 10 and 68. Once again though, you can easily find the side roads on the map and stay off rt. 10 at the busy times.

I've been working in Cheshire for 10 years, and those are just my thoughts from what I have seen there. I would recommend the town.
