Did union concessions never materialize or is the state illegally using the state employees retiree healthcare contributions, therefore breaching their contract with them?
Come on now. Not that it would surprise me, but raiding the cookie jar is verboten, and sticking our fingers in our ears and saying "la-la-la-la" does not change that fact. Or would you rather have another large tax increase appear "unexpectedly"?
Facts are our friends, and we should be grateful that this particular fact came forth to the light of day. Too often unpleasant facts are killed and buried. Or tortured into something completely unrecognizable and served up as "reform", for which payment must be extracted. Don't say you haven't seen it happen.
Of course they are. Don't worry, it's Connecticut, we're use to higher and higher taxes. By the way, thanks Town of Hamden officials. I don't know what you're wasting the money on, but thanks for yet another increase on my property taxes. I hate keeping more of my hard earned money anyways
Bob if you moved why do you care? Are you not satisfied with your new location?
The state has its problems but it will work itself out. Yes, the taxes are higher than the south and there is waste. However, not everyone wants to chase "right to work state" work wages and fight for substandard benefits. The key is proper leadership, supervision and use of resources. That's what the people of Connecticut deserve. Unfortunately the newspaper headlines are crafted to sell papers not provide unbiased information to the people.
I don't think that the good people of Connecticut will all pack up and move south. My family spent a beautiful day at the beach yesterday with family and friends. Everyone was having a good time and no one was thinking of moving since they have decent jobs and generations of their families live here.

This is correct. There is not another on-going discussion of this topic so this thread can stay. Keep in mind the rules of this forum require everyone to please be respectful of others. JayCT, Moderator
I actually posted this "off topic" in another thread. The other thread was a headline stating that Ct was in the top 10 gdp states iirc. My point wasn't to derail that thread- my point was even "positive" Ct state finance news right now is lackluster at best. The point of a headline like this I think serves a couple of points. For those people in "the middle", it serves as a place to commiserate about the "pinch". The pinch being the cost of living here. Seemingly every year, "just a little bit more" to give to the local town and state. The other point for me is the frustration. I don't watch the state finances persay, and I didn't vote for the current governor. But as an average citizen; he had a chance to effectively lead. But he caved. The union slapped his hand and he fell in line. So the state government passed on any "tough spending decisions". Just pay "a little more". That's my impression. I bet there's a lot of "spending improvements" by the state that could prove me wrong. But the "just a little more" with so many of these headlines is tiring. Especially that our governor touted himself as the anti - christie. Include the ruling legislature with the same blame. I really question if there is any "proper leadership" going on. It still seems like the state is on a spending orgy. -m
