Im looking for a new home in shelton, I currently live in milford and own a business in fairfield, The commute isnt bad but my company has taken off in the last four years and i want to live in a more family orientated town. I heard the school system was excellent and the neighborhoods are just as good. the two houses me and my wife are looking at are in what the real estate agent called the "berries" neighborhood and "huntington estates". My question is how are these neighborhoods as far as major roads, highways, deli's, the neighborhood itself. We have yet to view it ourselves and want some local opinions.

The berries is one of the nicest neighborhoods in ALL of CT. It was built with perfection in mind lol. Thats why they all have quaint little berry names like "mayberry" "strawberry" "blueberry" "mulberry" etc. Its off of Nichols Ave (route 108) and Huntington St both of which are major in town roads. The town green is nice, and there are shops spread out through the town. The town really is made up of very separate sections. Theres the poor part of town which you really dont want to find yourself in at night (but you will not be near that dont worry), then theres the bridgeport border which is the Industry area with many companies and jobs near research dr and all of that. I used to work at United Rentals off of Research and its not bad at all. Then theres another part which is older colonial style and farm homes almost out in the country which are very New Englandy lol, then theres the section you're looking at. Shelton High school, while diverse, is nothing to be scared of. Its basically just your average high school. There are kids of all types, shapes, colors, sizes. People that go there tend to leave with a mixture of book education if they make that one of their goals AND good street smarts and life skills. If I were to pick any town in the panhandle of CT it would be Shelton. And either way, most likely if you can afford to live in those houses, then you might be able to consider private school if you dont like the public schools.

Just one thing about jadedsoul's reply, Shelton does not border Bridgeport. I think they may be referring to the Bridgeport Avenue/ route 8 corridor. Otherwise, I agree with everything else that was said. Jay

St. Joes is a good private school in Trumbull. The students who attend are largely from central/northern Fairfield County towns - Trumbull, Shelton, Stratford, Monroe, Oxford, Easton, Seymour and Newtown. A small percentage are from Bridgeport.

I'd suggest it highly, though in my experiences, the kids who attend do come from a respectable amount of money so drugs is an issue - but you get that in nearly every school.
