Seymour has a mixed feel IMO. I'd say a solid 2/3 feels like blue collar neighborhoods. It's such a loose term. What's a better way to say it? Middle income? A lot of blue collar folks make really good money, and a ot of white collar people don't.

Shelton is more half and half with more and more neighborhoods going upscale.

Derby's crime rate does fluctuate quite a bit though compared to Stratford, which historically has a pretty linear crime level. That aside, Derby is historically a city with a crime rate that is favorable(lower crime level than the average U.S. community).

Oh yeah, you forgot one little detail.

BUDGET??????

Shelton is definitely more "white collar" than Stratford. That wasn't the case as recently as 10 years ago. Seymour has changed as well, but it still is a real nice "blue collar" type of town, similar to the Stratford of say 20 years ago.

I think my wife's aunt budget tops out at $180 give or take.

She could probably get in to Orangewood for that. Units may be too big though?

If Derby isn't a must, there are a couple of adult(55+) complexes, Asbury Village in Shelton and Oronoque Village in Stratford that could be options also.

Did a double take here.

Crime index 2011
Milford: 175.6
Stratford: 238.7
Derby: 197.4

On that note, I never thought of Derby as dangerous. Mostly petty crime and/or minor drug activity.

I do out actualt average for the year at home and it wasnt even $200.00. We have a heat pump and we have UI and our energy comes from Levco (It helps greatly) plus we use an energy efficient water heater from UI. Highly reccomended. Electric really is not bad.......unless you like to set heat on 72 and above and a/c at like 60, then yes, the bill will be higher.
No complaints here.
You must have good insulation/windows. I was in an 80's condo with electric heat where the bill got up to $400-$450 in the winter, set at 69 degrees.

In my mind, blue collar is more cultural/educational/type of job than it is income.

Absolutely, but some neighborhoods someone would assume are "blue collar" can be largely professionals.

Wow!!!! $400-450? Holy crap!
Yes, I actually replaced every window and sliders too........however my bills were only slightly higher before I replaced them. These units are built very well and are nicely insulated.
