United Van Lines, while I do like its studies, publishes based off percentages in vs out, not quantities in/out. It excludes states from the ranking, if they fail to have a minimum of 250 in/out moves annually.

The journalists covering them usually do a lousy job of stating the parameters. The website of the true Migration Study they do annually is much more explicit and detailed. On occasion, the Courant will provide more details on the study vs the Post or Register.

PS: Idaho's inbound, are mainly high income, and I would bet a large chunk from Washington (state) or Oregon. The state of Washington we know has had lawlessness issues in its cities in recent years, and is not a terribly lengthy move.
Idaho has seen huge growth. Actually a friend here in town moved there around 10 yrs ago. His new home he bought sold for 2.5 times what he paid for then. Granted few from CT move there. Lot of California folks moving there. Simply look at the City - Data section in Idaho for evidence....

interesting. will do. I did see between 2010-2020 your population rose close to a quarter of a million.

In Idaho population doubled in one generation (25 years) in 2 out of 3 major areas (Boise area and Coeur D'Alene). Idaho Falls had "only" 50% growth. These are huge numbers, for a state where climate is much worse than California. Many CA people retired to Idaho, which flies in the face of the premise "people move in retirement because of warmer weather" which they DON'T. People retire elsewhere primarily because of economics.

You are right when you consider growth rates but not necessarily in actual numbers. Idaho has seen a 17.3% population increase since the 2010 Census but because it is a small state, the actual number of new residents is only 271,524 people. In comparison, Pennsylvania added 300,321 people yet it is not considered a high growth state because it is so large. It’s a matter of perspective. Jay

Huge growth. Can you blame them? ID is stunning. That's God's country. MT and WY too. AZ is over the top with growth right now. They're all on my radar when FT employment location is no longer necessary.

Where does CT rank. Without CV and NYC's bad luck, and equally bad mismanagement of the problem we would still be in a decline re home values. In many businesses customer counts are how you survive. You can't keep raising prices on the few remaining customers.

271k in a small state means the percentage coming had to be many times those going, which United Van Lines data corroborates as it is based on % entering a state vs % leaving a state.

Earlier today I examined a map showing growth by state color coded, and Idaho exceeded 2%/year, a rate few states achieved last decade. US growth 2010-2020 was far smaller than 2000-2010.

We have been fairly flat the last decade. About -17k change 2020 vs 2010 census.
