For the eighth consecutive month, Connecticut has added jobs to its economy. More importantly though is that the July employment numbers have been revised upwards. The unemployment rate is now at 4.1% which is basically full employment. Great news. Jay

"Within Fairfield Couty, the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk area led the state with 4,600 new jobs and the Greater Danbury area added 400 new positions."

GO STAMFORD GO!

If I had to take an educated guess, I would guess that most of the jobs went to the Stamford area. I don't see any jobs en masse going to Bridgeport that's for sure.

More on ASML’s massive $200 million expansion in Wilton. Employment there will go from 1,500 to 2,500 which is incredible. Great news for the state and it’s economy. Jay

Best Ct economic news in ages, as these are well paying jobs, in large numbers.

Plus, with a large Cap ex commitment (due to the nature of the business), this company is here LONG term.

I'd like to see states btw, offer incentives, obligating the employer in order to actually receive them, to both employ the target quantity of FTEs, plus annually add the target amount of minimum Capital Expenditures. The latter signifies a long-term commitment and is a write off (corps abhor) if they walk away from a site before they are fully depreciated.

I wouldn’t say it’s been ages. Didn’t three major companies announce they were moving here in the last year? Also hasn’t Electric Boat been hiring like mad for a couple years now? Didn’t Sikorsky just commit to remaining here with its 7,000 jobs for the next 20 years?

Evolution AB, the online gambling company has already hired 140 employees in Fairfield and has plans to add 260 more. Shelton based Budderfly, the energy conservation experts, is about to invest $500 million in our state and add “hundreds” of jobs. Tomo Networks is adding 100 jobs in Stamford. Over the past year or so, four major international tech companies have opened offices in downtown Hartford adding more than 1,900 new jobs based there. Bigelow Tea just added a new warehouse in Orange and is planning a new facility in Shelton in addition to their corporate headquarters in Fairfield. Subway committed to keep their corporate headquarters here with a new facility in Shelton. Alexicon is about to double their space New Haven and anticipates doubling their employees there to more than 1,000. And then there’s the dozen or so logistic facilities being built in our state. I’d certainly say that there’s been a lot of good economic news for our state recently. This just is more good news. Jay

EB has been up and down; Sikorsky is status quo.

This is a large addition, at excellent salary levels, with massive new Cap Ex spending.

Every business has its ups and downs. Electric Boat has been up for MANY years now. They haven’t had any layoffs in at least a decade or more. Given the Navy’s No. 1 priority is to modernize and expand its submarine program, it looks like there will be decades of work there. It’s uninformed and just negative to think otherwise.

The same goes for Sikorsky. It’s long been a key employer in our state. I’m not sure why you feel the need to diminish these. Jay
