I'm starting my research before my cable bundle contract is up. I previously had att which was satisfactory, but the price kept going up, so I switched to cablevision and I'm sure it'll be going up too. Anyone have experience with dish or direct tv?

Unfortunately with everyone switching to Dish and Direct, FIOS and Uverse cable HAS to raise prices to make up those losses. Think about it physical lines in the ground cost more to maintain than a satellite signal. Cable just cant compete. I never got a notice that my price was dropping with cable so i left. There are no cheap cable companies anymore. I have Dish's 120+ pack for 44/month with dual room HD DVR and love it but i'm in an exceptional signal location YMMV

Thank you for the response. The issue is that if the prices weren't always increasing beyond my ability to pay, I wouldn't be considering a change at all.
I'm in Stratford, I'll look into dish.

Just cut cable and do streaming. Get an HD antenna for free network stations and never look back.

Cable sucks, I don't miss it at all.

AT&T hasn't bombarded you with "We want you back" offers? I find that surprising.

When I had it, all it took was a phone call with some doubts about keeping it when the price went up to get the price right back down.

Unfortunately inCT each provider has little regional non-compete micro monopolies . You are stuck with the provider in your area.

This lack of competition keeps costs high. My area has cox cable which is the worst I have ever dealt with and we have since switched to direct tv and never looked back. It was cheaper for us not to bundle and we get better channels.

Yeah, that works with some companies. Doesn't work with Cablevision though.

I called and told Time Warner I didn't want cable TV or phone any more-- Just internet. They came up with a deal that gave me basic channels and HBO + Internet for less than half of what I was paying. With the package, the TV was only costing about $8 a month-- which is about what it's worth.

We have Chromecast and stream Netflix, Google and Youtube to our large(ish) living room TV.

We have had DirecTV for years and they do the same thing with their prices. Just picked up an antenna and a roku. Not gonna miss that $90 bill every month.
