Never happening. Stamford has a height limit of 350 feet and the tallest building in Hartford known as CityPlace I is 535 feet. Not in our lifetime, at least.

As an FYI - there is much discussion going on in nearby Providence-RI regarding a proposed 46 floor 600 feet residential tower (Hope Point Tower). It would be taller than Hartford's City Place I (38 floors/535ft). It got initial approval from the commission that is charged with developing the former Route 195 land. The Providence Preservation Society and neighborhood groups have however come out against it. The Providence city zoning board recently voted against allowing a height restriction variance for it. This however can still be overridden by the city council.

That’s not a good placement for a building like that...

I'm torn it does look a bit out of place but it may not if development started sprouting tall buildings near by.

I think NH has the best shot at a high-rise residential tower.

PS: Interesting page on the Cutter Tower in Hartford, which was never built: https://chs.org/2014/11/hartford-supposed/

I have been reading about this in the media and over on the Rhode Island forum. Though the planning commission approved it, the Providence City Council could overturn it since it is completely out of place for the area and there is much opposition to it. The developer, The Fane Organization, has no experience in bringing this size development to fruition and as was noted by two of the city's biggest developers, the market for this type of building is just not there (see their opinion piece from the Providence Journal below).

Given this, I am not sure this will ever get built. It is one thing to get approval to build but is completely another to find someone willing to fork over financing (even with the massive public financial support the developer wants) for what is at best a highly speculative development. The building would be far from downtown and mass transit which is very important to a development like this. Plus keep in mind that one of the city's most prominent buildings, the Hospital Trust Building (a.k.a. The Superman Building) has sat vacant with little or no interest in redevelopment for years now. If anything I think that building, right in the heart of downtown, is more ripe for speculative development than this is. We will see. Jay
