Dahlias are a lot of work between feeding every 1-2 weeks and digging them up to store them in winter but man they put on a show
I got 4 kinds, hope to expand in years to come. I lost label for 1 of them

Invasive Spotted Lantern Fly on a Fig tree

First detected in the United States in Berks County, Pennsylvania

USDA announced that it had allocated $17.5 million in emergency funds to stop the spread of spotted lanternfly.

The spotted lanternfly is a planthopper from Asia. Plants & Trees are damaged by both the loss of sap from stems and leaves – which reduces photosynthesis.

Please report any sighting and/or kill them.

FYI... This place is awesome in New Haven. The Connecticut Agricultural Station can analyze your soil for free. :-) https://portal.ct.gov/CAES/Soil-Offi...s-Instructions

Put samples in a zip lock bag...

Just drop soil samples on counter. In 1-2 weeks they mail you the results.

The lobby is cool with a lot of interesting info

Can you bring them a leaf from a sick tree to analyze?

Email Gregory and ask. They'll probably want to physically see a tree. 1 leaf might not mean much. I sent pictures one year of a sycamore tree in bad shape. They said the drought was the reason (2016)

Please post back and let us know what they said

Thanks! I'll have to wait for it to bloom.

Thats the only free place I know of. You can always mail your sample to them. Or buy a soil savy test kit online. Or use the UConn Lab they charge $10 and they dont even give nitrogen results

WOW! Very cool. They already sent back the results !

I always thought I had clay soil. I got Sandy Loam and makes sense since it needs frequent watering. Sandy loam not only drains faster but it loses nutrients by leaching faster than other type of soils.

They recommend 32-0-4 fert on lawn twice a year. The 0 because my phosphorus is high in the lawn.
My potassium is low so the 4 will help it.

Ph level varies in different spots. 8.2 in the raised bed. I need to lower that.
Wood ash and Lime increases pH.
Aluminum sulfate or sulfuric acid decreases it

Lawns should be 6.5-7.0.
Veggies do good with 6.0-7.0

I built this little hoop house last month with the hopes I can extend my greens growing season in the fall and start early in the spring
