Flashback to 2016 for a look at how Cardboard works to block weeds

I think the trick is not to do it too early. By August it broke down enough for weeds to overtake it. But was a nice 4 months of free blocking.

If you start in April or May then you'll be good through September/October and by that time weeds aren't active anymore with winter around the corner. By Spring you wont even know where the cardboard is as it will have broken down enough.

A little color for you guys. I don't do flowers so take what you see. lol

Started these from seeds...1st time growing flowers.

I'll try to remember to grow Petunias each year since they seem easy and produce.

Pansies

The others aren't producing. Here's the bachelor buttons. No idea

See it? People wonder why I have no fencing around my garden beds and don't lose crops. lol Maybe it's a trust thing?

My harvest June 24, 2020

Fava Beans, Radish, Swiss Chard

WOW!

Tomato Update: July 6, 2020

Here are the 6 Varieties I am growing. I have 2 of each.

Still no ripe ones yet. We used to pick ripe ones end of June in the past but lately with our cold springs its usually delayed to July now. It's good we start them indoors. Only 2 months left of growing season here in CT.

Rapunzel. My favorite cherry to grow. High yields and not super sweet.

Steak Sandwich. Not a lot of yields but a large juicy tomato that takes time to ripen

Aces: High yields and a nice medium size.

Delicious: First time growing them

Homestead: Not small, not big, not medium. lol. I always grow these because of the taste and size but yields haven't been consistent over the years.

Jet Star: First time growing these. I heard these are first to ripen...still waiting..

I plan on doing a similar post when they are all ripe and I will show the insides of them as well.

I am planning on getting some seeds in this weekend for a spring planting of greens: bibb lettuce, kale, etc.

Was an awesome Saturday to be outside but Sunday was a wash out. Hope you got your seeds in but its still early anyway.

==============

Soil temps back down to mid 40s. Was in mid 50s couple days ago. 44.4°.

Actually colder than previous 3 yrs for this date now.

Note in 2018(blue) and 2020(green) we barely had a rising trend before end of April. Soil stayed under 50° for most part

Thats a great video. Yes, dahlias grow very well in CT. Generally perfect weather conditions.
