Long read, but a really interesting proposal. Thoughts?

Sorry for not clarifying, this article is a look at the newest proposal for reimagining the highway system in Hartford. Quite comprehensive and intriguing even if it lacks some details currently.

I agree this plan is quite comprehensive but I doubt it will only cost $15 billion. A lot will depend on how comprehensive the secondary elements (local street impacts, right of way costs, utility impacts, etc.) of the project are. That said, there is the huge question of how it will be paid for. Even if our Congressional delegation gets significant federal funding, the state will still have to come up with $3.75 to $7.5 billion. Given the current issues we have with transportation funding, it’s highly unlikely the state will have sufficient funds to cover that much. Jay

True, costs will probably go over. Fortunately New England is in a unique situation with Richie Neal (Springfield), Rosa DeLauro (New Haven), and James McGovern (Worcester) representing Ways and Means, Rules Committee, and Appropriations Committee. Southern NE is in a prime spot for this type of infrastructure as well as high speed rail initiatives should the Biden Admin sign the anticipated infrastructure bill.

Glastonbury town center development proposal gets mixed reviews

GLASTONBURY — The developer of Hartford’s Front Street entertainment district has proposed a mix of apartments and retail shops in Glastonbury center — a project that received mixed reviews from town officials and residents who had concerns about the project’s density and parking.

Good news for Manchester

MANCHESTER — The long road to reviving the former “dark side” of the Manchester Parkade passed another milestone Monday and site work on the mixed-use development is due to start soon.

The planning and zoning commission approved the master development for the town-owned site off Broad Street, along with a detailed plan for utilities and infrastructure. The planned $140 to $150 million Silk City Green development is to include apartments, offices, retail shops and a hotel.

Major development in Hartford North End

The developer building $200 million-plus worth of apartments, retail space and parking garages around Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford says he remains on the hunt for a grocery operator to commit to a store at the Downtown North development now known as North Crossing.

Hartford’s North Crossing development across from Dunkin’ Donuts Park is set to feature 270 apartment units, 11,000 square feet of retail space and a 330-space parking garage.

I think West Hartford is a lot like Fairfield already. Parts are very similar to each other in character and density. Jay

We had a brief discussion of the Glastonbury project on the Avon vs. Glastonbury thread. I do not like this project because the developer is proposing to demolish two very charming and historic mid 1800’s buildings for it. It’s a complete non starter for me. Plus I do not care for the architecture. It’s too contemporary for the historic town center and has no ties in scale and design to the historic buildings surrounding this project.

This is good news about the long delayed Manchester Parkade project. I just hope this one gets built. The city wasted too many years on the Liveworklearnplay project which went no where. Jay
