I know a lot of people who haven't even driven outside the state! Considering how small our state is, I find that amazing.

I live in Indianapolis, which is similar to Columbus in a lot of ways and I'm from the South. Charlotte is reasonably close to the beach, close to the mountains, has Lake Norman, etc. It has a lot of advantages over the Midwest, outside of the economy. That said, he's ruled out a lot of locations most other people would find viable.

Granted, I haven't moved around as much as other people, but I'm 29 and have lived in IA, IN, VA, TN, MA, and SC for at least a month each since the first of 2012. Before that, I had done some traveling throughout the South, and lived in VA and SC, but not much more than the average Joe. My life is certainly much richer because of these experiences.

The pay difference here is ultimately splitting hairs. If he's as unhappy as he seems to be, he ought to take the jump. If the money isn't sufficient, he can come back to the northeast. If he doesn't like it, he can move on to the next destination. Life is too short to miserable in a spot you don't like it.

With median household income in the Columbus metro being $54K and my annual wages expected to be $66K, I don't see how or why I would struggle there financially.

No No ... I lived in Charlotte and know it well. I want to know what happened when NEP moved to Charlotte. I remember reading 7,000 pages of why he was going but very little about why he returned.

I've got my extended stay hotel reserved for a good week so that I have a place to "live" while looking for an apartment.

Can't wait!
And to think you almost didn't sign the offer. What a mistake that would have been.

I don't remember much, but I believe it was something about the people he encountered there. Or he didn't like the culture it had.

Ok...I just hope he realizes Columbus is going to have some of the same challenges.

"Glass 1/2 full" thought pattern or its meltdown city.
