Why will it never happen? We need a higher end department store option like Nordstroms. I don't see how you can equate JC Penney's failings with a store like Nordstroms or Bloomingdales. I can't remember the last time I stepped into a JC Penney's. IMO, the service and quality of Nordstroms will be a huge draw.

What does a JC penny closing in Milford have to do with luxury stores in Norwalk?

1) Putrid and declining sales YoY for both from most recent financials
2) Malls are outdated
3) I'll believe it when I see it.
4) Too bad. I was looking forward to a Fogo de Chao going in there.

Another one bites the dust!

Every business, mostly restaurants, that opens in the Target building in Stamford goes belly up. That spot must have some sort of anti-commercial voodoo spell or something!

I'm shocked that McFadden's closed too. Every evening that I passed by there the place was full of people, at least it seem that way from the outside. I guess looks can be deceiving.

One thing I learned is that no matter how good or busy a restaurant is, if it is not managed correctly it will fail. I have a friend who was the manager of one of Fairfield's most successful restaurants back in the 80's. The place was always busy and one weekends it was mobbed. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and people just loved it. The problem was the owners were sucking a huge amount of money out it and not investing it back into the business or saving for a downturn in the economy. They literally were showing little to no profits because each family member plus a few friends were drawing enormous salaries but not even stepping foot into the place. I asked my friend where the money was going and she replied "Up their noses". After several years of this, it began to show. The menus got pricier, the food quality went down. A couple of key people including the master chef, left for better opportunities. My friend got fed up and left to open her own business a few years before the business completely collapsed.

I am not saying this is what happened at these places but if they were usually very busy and they end up closing abruptly there is usually more to the story than what it appears. Jay

Not as familiar with the Stamford scene these days (haven't worked there in a decade thank God), but unless you work, live in, or next to Stamford, it's lost all appeal as a place to go for that stuff, hard to get to and parking challenges coupled with the explosion of great dining/entertainment options in recent years along several exits further up the line in county.

Very true, but Stamford has also seen a rise in downtown residential development in the past 10 years, which should offset the decline in suburban diners. The real reason these places closed is that the city is maxed out on steakhouses and BBQ joints.

Cromwell should be getting a new Shop Rite in the old Kmart Plaza. Kmart just closed last week, and Xpect Discounts closed about a year ago. I believe Shop Rite is going take over all of Xpect's old space, and part of Kmart's old space.

That sounds too good to be true. Cromwell already has a huge Stop & Shop and a huge Walmart with grocery. I doubt the town would allow 3 grocery stores within 1 mile of themselves.

Besides, if Shop Rite did open in that location that Stop & Shop would probably go out of business. Their prices and service in the Cromwell store are atrocious. Although that store is extremely clean, which is one bright spot for them I guess.
