UConn has a good balance between both. It is rated by US News and World Report as the 19th best Public University in the country.

UConn and Syracuse were members of the Big East which was a BCS conference before it imploded. Miami one a couple of national titles as a member and the conference one most of its Bowl games when matched with opponents from the other major conferences. BC was also a member of the Big East but it is also a Catholic school like Notre Dame. Different culture than a non denominational educational institution.
BC is not and has never been a Catholic school. And UConn shoots itself in the foot on it's uncompromising stance with it's preseason basketball schedule. The big 10 and ACC both have certain contracts to play a certain number of games with other conferences. UConn likes to play patsies in it's non conference schedule and will not compromise.

BC isn't catholic? UConn's non-conference schedule is pretty robust this year. It all comes down to money, not athletics. Rutgers being accepted into the Big 10 was the biggest joke. Even NJ residents aren't big on Rutgers athletics. You would think conferences would love to have the top women's basketball program that could sell out an arena (compared to 95% of other programs which attract a couple hundred fans per game, at best) and a top 10 men's basketball program.

Football made a great turnaround this year. Top 5 program win Saturday vs. Houston.

BC stands for Boston College which is a Catholic university founded by the Jesuit Order in the Chestnut Hill section of Newton, Massachusetts. It always has been a Catholic school and likely will always be a Catholic school. Jay

Yes, the new coaching staff has done a good job at rebuilding the football team. Very happy to see they are on the way up again. Next year should be a good year if they stay healthy. Not many seniors are graduating this year.

Not sure how the Basketball program entered this thread since it is really about football.

There's 41 bowl games meaning 82 teams go bowling. A 6-6 record is "bowl eligible." Currently, there are 72 teams that are currently "bowl eligible" meaning they have the requisite 6 wins. There's another 13 teams that currently sit a 5-6 and of those 13 I think only 5 or 6 are favored to win, so there's a pretty good chance we could have only about 78 or 79 teams finish 6-6 or better, so I'd say there's about a 99% chance UConn will be in a bowl game. It won't be a good bowl game, but it will be a bowl game none-the-less which means the extra practices.

41 bowl games? That's absurd. Time to turn back the clock and limit the number to perhaps 15, maybe 20 tops. They've watered down the quality of the games to the point that they have only a handful of people in the stands to watch a couple of mediocre teams battle it out.

I agree 1,000%. There should be 10 bowls (+ the playoffs), and the required record should be 8-4 AND play only FBS teams, so this past week & then weeks 1 & 2 when half of the SEC played non FBS teams, they;d be ineligible even if they finished 11-1. Actually make it mean something. But since the bowls, and the advertisements, and the tourist dollars that come in all go into the NCAA's coffers, they are more likely to keep adding bowl games until we get down to the "Colgate whiting, who gives a $#!t Toilet Bowl" played between 2 FBS power 5 teams with 0 or 1 win then they are at eliminating all these useless bowl.

Oh yah, and it also helps mediocre coaches stay employed, so that's another + mark for the NCAA! "Hey, even though you've finished 6-7 for the 7th straight season, we have made it to 7 straight bowl games, so we're rewarding you with a $13 million extension, and a $3.5 million buyout."
