Not sure where you need to commute to but I loved living on the West side of Hartford. I lived in Farmington and Avon - right next to West Hartford. I did my shopping in West Hartford and loved the quaintness of the downtown area. Glastonbury seemed to me to be newer and not quite as convenient to get into Hartford as West Hartford/Farmington.

Not true about convenience to get downtown. Remember Route 2 from Glastonbury takes you right into downtown near Constitution Plaza. It is very convenient. Certainly more convenient than coming in from Farmington or the western side of West Hartford. Glastonbury is generally newer and more car oriented than West Hartford but about the same or better than Farmington IMHO. Jay

Guess it depends on where you go more for work and play. I find it very easy to get into Hartford although it's not my favorite place to be. I don't do much west of the river, so that doesn't bother me. Even when I am west of the river and need to get to someplace else, it takes forever. Except for spots in Manchester I find east of the river much easier and quicker to get around in. I had to drive from Iron Horse Blvd in Simsbury to Newington one Saturday last summer and really wanted to shoot people. It honestly would have been easier for me to go home, then go to Newington from there later in the day.
