Among the cities selected in the area, almost all 17 scored top marks in local amenities, and low marks in cost of living and weather. Darien led the race at the top place to live in the state, due in part to its low crime rate, stable housing market, and high income per capita. It also ranked 69th among all American cities surveyed.
Riverside, Westport, Ridgefield, and Old Greenwich rounded out the top five places in Connecticut.

1. Darien
2. Riverside(Greenwich)
3. Westport
4. Ridgefield
5. Old Greenwich, CT(Greenwich)
6. Cos Cob (Greenwich)
7. Southport(Fairfield)
8. Greenwich
9. Glenville (Greenwich)
10. Mystic, CT

13. Shelton 16. Oldsaybrook, 18. Bethel 19. North Haven 21. Newtown
22. Glastonbury 23. Milford 24. Trumbull 29. Stamford 32. Norwalk 47. Stratford

Looks like Westport and Riverside are tied for #2.

Well this list had me for a minute and then I went and looked at the full list and saw that Portland was No. 11. Portland??? It rates better than West Hartford, Guilford, Madison and Glastonbury and I don't even see Fairfield or Farmington on the list. Sorry but just another useless rating system that has at best questionable ratings. Jay

Five of the top 10 are Greenwich? I agree with Jay. This list is meaningless.

Yes because all of these towns were out of the silly CD town contest by Rd 3.

I don't know why ... and ive seen something like this frequently ... neighborhoods in Greenwich are treated like they were separate towns ...anyone have a clue as to why ?... yes they have separate zip codes .... but other towns do as well ...

they are all sections of Greenwich and are pretty different. Greenwich is a huge town, could be classified as a city but it will never be.

If you lump them together, you lose key distinctions between income and property values in these neighborhoods. And then how are you supposed to know if you're better than the guy across town? It could throw the country club social hierarchy into complete chaos.

If you look at it, it says the best "places" to live so I guess it could be considered neighborhoods or sections of a town. They list the Southport section of Fairfield as well. That can be overlooked but Portland as No. 11??? IT is a decent town and all but not anywhere near in the same league as the others. Its schools are average at best. There is little to no shopping or entertainment (it does have Brownstone Adventure Park and a couple of golf courses though). There are some nice old buildings along Main Street but many are kind of run down. Route 66 is basically a strip of tired strip type buildings with a mish mash of styles. Anyway it is not a town I think would be rated that high overall. Jay
