I commuted from Southbury (near Exit 16) to Hartford (Airport Rd on 91) some years back (late 2000s), and it was 45-55 minutes at rush hour.

I'm willing to accept that it's longer now but not THAT much longer. They still had 84 widening construction going on in Waterbury back then.

Keep in mind the OP didn't ask WHETHER they should move. They stated where the jobs were and asked where to live, given that fact. Living along these areas of 84 is still a much, much better option than living in the I-95 corridor, period. Also, the Waterbury backup is temporary, while 95 will just continue to get worse.

The Waterbury traffic is annoying but not as bad as 95 or Merritt - not even close. If you choose Prospect as someone suggested you could actually get on right at the very end of it. The project's original finish date was 2020. But they are moving quite well and I think I heard they were actually 18 months ahead of schedule. The times I've hit traffic, I can honestly say it only took an extra four or five minutes to get through the area.

I hadn't considered Prospect (no pun ventured). Thanks for that tip.

Prospect is nice and quiet. I think you'll like it!

The halfway point between Hartford and White Plains, NY is Milford/New Haven CT area. I recommend Milford, North Haven, Hamden(Try to stay away from southern Hamden areas such as dixwell ave, circular ave area anything within 1-1.5 mile from New Haven border rest of Hamden is fine.

New Haven area to Hartford is 40 mins-50 mins, You are on Metro North line to NYC and White Plains
No no no. Metro North New Haven Line DOES NOT go to White Plains. Traffic is terrible.

OP is best off in the Danbury or Southbury areas.

My sister works in Irvington, NY (about 10 minutes West of White Plains) and her husband works in Hartford, and they live here in Trumbull. But I would definitely suggest a place off of 84 like Prospect, Bethany, or the Bury's (Middle, South & Wood)

Does she commute down the Merritt Parkway during regular rush hour times? I would think that you be a nightmare of a commute. Trumbull to Hartford is not as bad since he must go against traffic but still during rush hour it must be over an hour. Jay

Its about 50-55 min. People keep saying its a nightmare and "you can't do it that commute or you'll kill yourself" are really exaggerating.

Only 50 minutes from Trumbull to WP during rush hour?
Takes a lot of people I know that long just to go to Stamford. Takes me 25 mins to go a mere 10 miles during rush hour.
Whatever you say I guess.
