It just got brighter here, but still snowing. Roads are just wet. Driveway has snow. Sidewalks mostly just wet. No plows, no treatments at all.

Looks nice out there (Wilton & NYC). Guessing not much need to shovel/blow (as was the case with 2 of the last four storms).

A cold front came through yesterday and pushed south enough for this snowstorm to happen for us. 5 days ago models thought that front would be even south more and that's why didn't have anything for us. Then they started realizing it would be north more.. And so.. Storm formed over Virginia and rode along it throwing precip back into us.

There's also strong winds at 18,000' which helped cause some instability. There's also a temperature gradient near the front which helped force some heavier banding.

A look at the 5000' temps. Freezing line far enough south with moisture from the storm that it fell as all snow for us. Reason why this Arctic air is over us is because there is a Vortex over the Hudson Bay which is pushing the Jet stream south. More south than normal for this time of year

Coming up..............? What an active pattern still! Gees.

Today: This storm is done now..
Tomorrow: Warm front comes in. Precip around with it.
Wednesday: Rain.
Thursday: Cold front moves through again. Sound familiar (like yesterday)???
Air mass behind this front is very cold for this time of year. 5000' temps in the single digit and teens (F°)

Friday: Storm with moisture around while it's in the 20s aloft. Problem is, GFS has it during the day so look at the surface temps Friday during the precip. Upper 40s.

Updated reading at 1130am at BDR is at exactly 6.0 inches, tieing the all-time April one-day snowfall record from April 6, 1982. Will be interesting to see if any more snow is recorded there or if it stays a tie.

Anything that fell after 11:30am was light and didn't stick so should hold at 6". Incredible. We're witnessing impressive cold and snow events past few yrs.

While the 6 inches is the most in 1 day for April, April 1996 had a total 11.8" total that month. (4 days in a row with snow that month)

So April 2018 should be 2nd snowiest on record. Maybe. Who knows.

Sounds of drips outside and roads all fine but the snow is still around.

BTW - Birds are stressing that the ground is covered still

2pm still snow on ground. Down to about 3" now.
