Why is this happening? Well, its all about the position of the Jet stream really but mostly because these fronts are stalling over the region. Frequent fronts.

National Weather Service New York NY
542 AM EDT Thu May 2 2019

.SYNOPSIS...
A weak warm front will stall across the area today, before high
pressure off the New England coast allows a back door cold front
to quickly move southwest across the area into tonight. Another
weak warm frontal boundary will pass along the coast Friday,
while a cold front approaches from the west. The cold front
pushes through late Friday into Saturday with a stronger low
pressure system
affecting the area Saturday night into Sunday.
High pressure briefly builds into the region early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Minimal updates needed this hour as fog and drizzle continue.
Adjusted temperatures down a few degrees per recent obs.
Otherwise, the Special Weather Statement remains in effect
through 8 am.

High temperatures will be a challenge today, depending on how
far inland the warm front can move, and how quickly the back
door cold front begins to move through from the northeast. Most
guidance has trended higher across the interior, with a slower
movement of the back door cold front
.

Yup, I was going to put mine in last weekend, happy I didn't. still wrapped up under the shrinkwrap. Doesn't even look like its worth putting it in the lake this weekend. I was out in California last week near Folsom lake, looking at everyone enjoying the 90 degrees and their boats/jet skis. Very depressing coming back east where the trees are still dead looking. May 2nd and currently 44 degrees cloudy and rain. I know if I still lived in CT I wouldnt have to think twice about a move.

Looks like some clouds redeveloping over Southern NY and Northern NJ to our west... otherwise in the clear next few hours! For here.

Looks like Northern CT not getting lucky. I think the front is pushing south now??

Quick look at the Jet stream pattern to get a better understanding about the why.

Jet stream is dipping in central U.S where temps are below normal and its rising in the East where temps are above normal where its sunny.

Hot south of the Jet. Cold north of the Jet. Cloudy in between.

Then you have the fluctuations north and south with the fronts. So you got the fight of warm air from the south and cooler air to the north.

Not sure why there are so many clouds in the mid west actually but this is a good look why we been so cloudy and rainy here. Jet stream doesn't want to lift far enough north or stay far enough south.
