Is it me or when something we dont see every day happens people think "its so rare".

If Hartford gets to 7 days in a row 18 other times its happened. Most recent is 2020 with 8.

Consecutive days of 90+ for Hartford

But I use BDL data with caution given how hot that station has been vs others in the area. I dont trust it. DC had to "fix" theirs after 2 yrs of false heat readings. I think they had to change the fan on the station

At 7pm it was raining in Trumbull but not on I-95 in Stratford. Even Ansonia missed out. Pretty cool watching these localized events

DCA right? (As in Reagan airport, not Dulles). I am wondering as you just said if that's the issue with both BDL and EWR (Newark) which has the same issue of being way hotter than everyone near it (for example they were 100 today and yesterday and I think the next highest temp for several hundred miles was 3 degrees cooler). Long wondered about both those stations, thanks.

It's rare for me. I'm from MA and I haven't seen weather like this before. Moved here from a beach in MA where I never even needed a/c. (From WMass though originally. Three days of 90 degrees was a heatwave.)

To qualify for a heatwave there has to be 3 consecutive days of 90+

My backyard max temps...

July 19: 92.1°
July 20: 96.4°
July 21: 92.3°
July 22: 95.6°

"I haven't seen weather like this before"... ?? 7 days in a row coming from MA coast I'll give you that you never seen that before but its nothing new for Hartford.

But lets look at what you may have forgotten about......

Not sure where in MA but using New Bedford which is by the coast records only go back to 1996 but you can see that its nothing new. 4-5 days in a row several times

Even Marthas Vineyard an island surrounded by water has seen consecutive days. And records only go back to 1998 there. Imagine how many times its happened before that.

In 2002 there were 9 days total hitting 90s that year.

I think When people say "I don't remember this happening" its just gotta be a memory thing but I always check to make sure its not rare. But like clockwork everytime we get a heatwave someone always says it. lol

Today is Day #5 in a row in the 90s for Hartford (BDL).
http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/plo...S::dpi:100.png

Forecast calls for 2 more days.

18 years on record have 7 or more days in a row of 90s.

1995 & 2016 the record with 10 in a row.

I have a thread on it. //www.city-data.com/forum/weath...re-sensor.html Good luck sending Upton out there to investigate, they are the laziest and least most interactive on social media.

Speaking of investigating... Newark hits 100° again today making it 4 in a row.

Luckily this ties the record so we wont hear about needing to save everyone from extinction. It happened in 1953, 1993 & 2010

============

EDIT: Newark drops to 95 1 hour after hitting 101. Explain that spike.

I had no idea Hartford was so HOT! I always remember the tv weather guy hollering and screaming whenever we had three days above 90. Heatwave! So it isn't like that in Hartford Cty apparently. That's how it was in Northampton MA and on the North Shore (near New Hampshire) MA.

It is so hot again today that I picked an almost ripe tomato because I don't think they're going to ripen in this heat. One more day of this and maybe the rest of the tomatoes can have it cool enough to turn red.

If Urban areas contribute to heat, I wonder why we're still using airports for temp readings.
I know about the fan and the adjustments but I mean that's just hot air moving around within the site itself. Crazy
