My only gripe with the warm weather coming in fast in April is the lack of shade. I live in a heavily wooded area that hasn't leafed out yet. There isn't much escape outside from the direct sun and 90 degree temperature.

90° in my backyard again. AC running during the day in April and shades are closed.. Weird.

Yup, It's not common we get 80s without shade (at least near the coast it isn't) but 90s? Just feels odd. I washed the vehicles today and I thought it was mid July. Nuts

3:30pm map... Another day of 90s for some again. 95° in Hartford??

I don't get why they don't look into that station. They did for DC and found the fan wasn't properly working so it read couple degrees warmer all the time.

In fact Hartford may be the hottest spot in entire Lower 48. You have to go down to Mexico to be as warm.

It is their 2nd highest temperature ever in April (tied with April 17, 2002 and April 18, 1976....April record is 96 on April 19, 1976). On another forum someone asked if somewhere in the Northeast (which they counted down to DC as you'll see) was ever #1 in the lower 48 and the following answers came out (I think I may have posted something earlier this week on here about it too but I can't remember):

1) April 18, 1976, NY City at 96 was the hotspot (if it were 1 degree warmer, Hartford would've joined them....I don't know if Hartford was the hottest in the lower 48 the next day but I think it would've been mentioned if it was, if it was not I think that might have been the closest Hartford ever came to that feat).

2) March 13, 1990 Baltimore at 95 was the hotspot.

In a really unusual case, we almost had it once in summer. On July 22, 2011 (BDR tied their all time high of 103 that ironically was on the same date in 1957), Newark, NJ hit it's all time high of 108 and was the 2nd highest temp in the lower 48 as the usual suspects that time of year of Death Valley or adjacent places in Arizona were below normal. But one obscure place in Arizona (I think it was Lake Havasu City) got just warm enough to hit 112 and get the nod.

UPDATE: This site: http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/discuss...p?disc=nathilo says Rio Grande Village, TX at 97 is currently the lower 48 hotspot. Oh, so close......

Which headline do you prefer? Both true statements...

"It's never happened this early"

OR

"we've hit 90° in April before"

Number of times Hartford hit 90°+ in April...

2002 (3) 16th, 17th, 18th
1976 (3) 17th, 18th, 19th
2023 (2) 13th, 14th
2009 (2) 25th, 28th
1990 (2) 27th, 28th

None were before April 16th until this year

While the 60s and 70s coming will feel cold, Normal Max is now 60° so we'll be above normal still...except Tuesday

Thats so crazy to me. 60s should feel nice and warm this time of ywar yet its gonna feel chilly now. Hahaha

I acclimate so fast.

Hartford/Bradley (BDL) topped out at 96, tieing it's all-time April highest ever temperature!

It missed being the high for the entire lower 48 by 1 degree! (Rio Grande Village, TX at 97 was the "winner") Wow!

Hartford is not even a NYC with the population and bricks. Theres no reason why they should be such a hot spot. I mean I totally see 93 today but 96?? So frustrating. I mean there were urban areas that were cooler. And to compare to south Texas when nobody else came that close?

Im wondering how many stations are reading too warm now

I'm also veering away from finding high temps interesting. Seems to easy to manipulate or be an error. Im more interested in number of times and when

I was wondering if maybe it was an error. I mean it was hot around here but 96? Anyway, I'd like to see some of that wet stuff, think it's called rain?

I've long wondered it about them too and even with the population and bricks, also Newark Airport which always seems to have unusually high daytime Temps as well and at 93 was the 2nd warmest spot from Maine to DC yesterday.

I have a similar issue with low Temps at LaGuardia and Central Park itself. I get the population and bricks but even with that I had seen days where LaGuardia had the highest low temp north of Virginia!. Yesterday Central Park had a low of 70 which became its earliest in the year low of 70 or more (former record April 17, 2002). To put this in perspective, only 3 other April days there had a low of 70 or more and two of them had highs of 96 (April 17 and 18, 2002 and April 18, 1976). What really made me wonder about this is that no one else in the area was close. Even LaGuardia's low was 67, Newark's was 61 and JFK's was 55! (In CT BDR's and Danbury's lows were 57 and 52 respectively). If this rise were uniform I could argue "climate change" but it's not.
