Hi

I just moved to the WBury area, and am in search of:

1) A good bakery that makes a good sourdough bread. I found a couple of bakeries, but they are light on the bread, and have no sdough

2) Beef bones to make beef stock (bone broth). The bones found in supermarkets (usually femur bones) don't cut it by themselves. Anyone know of a good butcher that sells bones (many do not, believe it or not), or a farm?

Thanks!

I am not in the Waterbury area so can't help you on the bakery front. However, I find beef bones are easily purchased (and with the best price) through Asian markets. There are large supermarkets like A Dong in West Hartford as well as hundreds of smaller markets throughout the state. Also, if you are looking for more collagen in your bone broth, chicken feet are readily available everywhere. If you go to a Stop and Shop in a more diverse area (including Waterbury) you will find them in the meat section. A handful of those in your stock do wonders.

Try Brooklyn Bakery, 464 Reidville Drive (near BJ's) in Waterbury. I can't say for sure that they will have it but it's worth a try.

I don't know for sure but for the beef you could try Watertown Meat Center (Watertown Meat Center - Home) or Litchfield Locker (Litchfield Locker) and see if they have it.

Try the Stop & Shop on Chase Ave in Waterbury for beef bones. If they don’t have them, Watertown Meat Center or possibly LaBonne’s in Watertown or Prospect. New Morning in Woodbury definitely has them if that’s convenient to you.

Wave Hill in Norwalk makes great sourdough bread. New Morning usually has it in stock.

You could try the new Asian supermarket in Milford. It’s huge. G MART.

I get mine from Provisions on State in New Haven. New butcher that’s a little more high end, lots of grass fed products.

I think G Cafe in New Haven has sourdough. You could also try Apicella’s, which is a very popular Italian bakery. Not sure they’ll have it, but they’re excellent.

Scratch Baking in Milford is also incredible but I haven’t seen sourdough there.

There's a pretty good bakery in Woodbury off of route 6 at the 6 & 64 intersection in what I think is the Sherman Hill plaza. Not sure if they have sourdough, only been there once and I went for the croissants, and it closes at 3, so most of the time it's already closed by the time I arrive, but I've heard really good things.

That’s Ovens of France - I think they have sourdough but it’s always sold out by the time I get there

I second Ovens of France. Amazing breads, croissants, pastries.
I’m fortunate to live near a place in Danbury that receives a daily delivery of all of Ovens of France’s deliciousness
