There is some debate as to if the southern stream/northern frontal system phase on Friday, but many of the other models are showing a more suppressed look, which would keep most (maybe all) of the precip away from the Tri-State area. In both cases, a light wet mix (but mostly rain), for a few hrs, then quickly changing to rain for the Tri-State seems a good bet, just too warm. If the low gets more north, then there might be some real snow from northern Mass northward . NOAA seems to be leaning this way:

As a side note...what has made this March so tough to get anything frozen, is not only have the days been warm, be we have struggled to even get below freezing at night. While the normal March high is 47 F, the normal low is only 31 F (at NWS Bridgeport), and even a bit cooler inland. Yet, looking at NWS Bridgeport, we have failed to fall below freezing every single night except once so far this March. The average low is almost 10 F above normal.:

Coastal storm this weekend. May start as snow for interior CT and higher elevations and accumulate before changing to rain.

You're correct, they've since relented. But looks like a washout Saturday.

Wow, lows 10F above normal! But it will likely go below freezing Wednesday and Thursday night.

Yes...looks like a good rainstorm of Saturday. Low pressure over the southeast will move through the Middle Atlantic/Tri-State area sending subtropical moisture northward and interacting with a frontal system. So we should expect a good soaking. This should help kick start the growing season. Two inch soil temps are already above 45 F across northeast Virginia to southern Connecticut/Rhode Island:

50s for Coastal CT right now meanwhile less than 130 miles to the west...

..... a dangerous snow squall moving northeast at 45 mph.

Intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds leading to blowing snow and rapidly falling visibility. Wind gusts up to 35 mph.

No doubt the front means business. We will go from the 50's F today ...to highs in the low 40's on Thur. The good news is the cold shot should be really brief. By Friday, we should be closer to normal (mid 40's F), then temps should head into the upper 40's low 50's by the weekend, with some rain showers on Sat, then clearing on Sunday:

CPC updated what they expect the last of March to be like in terms of temps.

The 6 to 10 has the East Coast with a higher chance of seeing above normal temps:
