The rain has really come down hard. There is a strong southeast flow from the eastern Caribbean/southwest Bahamas directly up the East Coast that brought in very heavy rain all day:

Almost done! Almost 3 inches of rain today alone! That puts me over 9 inches for the month. HOLY CRAP!

I had some intense rates before. Look at that squall line across CT. No Thunder though.

Dark green circles = heavy rain. I also see 15-20" in Vermont! Anyone skiing this weekend???

You would have loved the long hot, dry summers of the early 1060's . LOL

While we have had some dry summers in recent years (2001, 2013 were the last really drought like summers), they were nothing compared to the "Great East Coast Drought" of the early 1960's. May through September normally sees about 3 inches of rain per month, many NWS stations from Rhode Island to northern Virginia didn't even have 3 inches in 3 month. That was before my time, but I do remember 1995 was also a bone dry hot summer. Cracked soil devoid of moisture, dead gardens, and day after day of pitless sun in cloudless skies. It was pretty intense for any area used to convective rain and humidity.

1964 still leads the pack:

Yes! I said it before
Still snowing as we speak 9pm on the mountain cams. Looks to be an epic pow day on the non groomed trails. Still trying to decide between Snow and Okemo to keep it around a 3hr drive. Plan on hitting the North Face first before it gets all tracked out.

This period actually reminds me of early 1973. After a (then) record rainfall El Niño was in a fast plunge into La Niña. January - March of both years had plenty of soaking rain. Hopefully this runs true to course. April 1973 had an 86° day. June had a major heat wave in the early-mid part of the month, but late August-early September was a real bakeoff, typical of early La Niñas. I was away on a teen tour from late June till the third week of August so my memory isn't helpful there, except San Francisco was nippy in late July.

This is the third month out of four with more than a half-foot of precipitation at the Bridgeport

December (8.35"), January (6.06"), and March (9.14") have combined to deliver nearly two feet (23.55") of precipitation

I guess we'll need more bug spray than usual this Spring/Summer. And moss mildew killers
