I think we can relax.

Friday will feature showers and gusty winds. It will quickly pass by late Fri night. By this weekend…blazing sunshine and temps near 60 F will be the rule across the Tri-State area.

Snow? The Atlantic Ocean is near 70 F off of the NJ/LI coast. We'll be lucky if we see snow south of I-84 in CT before the new year. The ocean cools veeeeery slowly. – lol.

Neither did he. Last paragraph, different subject from his first two paragraphs. I think his first two paragraphs were in response to the posts regarding the "noreaster" being discussed for this weekend, which should actually be gone by Saturday. Geez, tempers run hot here on the Weather thread.

Once again another post regarding not being able to snow with 70 degree waters.

You have to admit it is VERY RARE for a snow storm to have NO ocean influence and be major..and thats what you would need. Even clippers need some moisture..Sure a few inches but after that the ocean has to get involved and I also agree that waters in the 50's in December wont do the trick

Without posting links or stats lets think about it... The Ocean is to our East...

Clippers move NorthWest to SouthEast.
Fronts move West to East.

The only influence is the storms coming up the coast or a NorEaster which will wrap around the warm moisture.

I will agree to some extent that the coastline might have a hard time seeing snow but 10 miles inland is a different story...and yes, it is rare for November but not sure if I can say December until I see previous records.

OCTOBER NOR'EASTER COMING. Moving Fast. Rain Limited.

Thursday night to Saturday

Thursday Night - thunderstorms, downpours 1-2"
Friday - Another inch of Rain, Cold, wind 45mph gusts
Saturday - Dry, Cold, Windy

Snow in higher elevations Friday night.

Perfect example of snow that can come from a storm from the south even with warm waters. If the trough was deeper and temps were colder, as soon as the storm passes us it could have wrapped around cold air...This storm is deep enough to produce the cold air but we dont have that cold air in place here...PLUS it will strengthen up North more not here..

Warm Ocean waters means nothing.

I disagree...thats why most big storms in CT occur in February, not January..by February the water temp is truly cold enough so even an easterly flow will not warm the atmosphere enough to turn snow to rain. Without Atlantic moisture, you may get up to 6 inches, but to get the 1 to 2 feet, very few storms have enough moisture to work with on their own. I don't care how cold an air mass is. Once the warm ocean air overrides, that snow is turnin to something else and I dont care if the air temp is 20 degrees. Ocean influence is huge on winter storms.

And tell me who's talking about 1-2 feet? Had I known you're posting to yourself I would have never repied. SNOW...I said Snow!! I didnt say anything about "big storm" or "1-2'".. Gees. We can get snow with warm ocean waters. Period. Lets move on now.
