My husband and I are relocating our family from Fredericksburg to the Corpus area after the 1st of the year. We have been researching online the different small towns around Corpus like Portland and Flour Bluff. Can any one please help and give us a heads up as to these two towns. Are they nice towns...good to raise kids in... low crime....etc. I would be soooooo appreciative for any info, advice, experience, knowledge...etc.

Thanks a billion!!!

Jeanie

Default Portland vs. Flour Bluff

I have been through both towns several times and all I can say is that Portland is much nicer. Flour Bluff is more run-down so to speak.

Stay out of nueces county(corpus christi) the tax rate is very high. You can get more house for your money in other counties. Also, the crime rate is higher than Portland or Kingsville.

i just moved to Kingsville little over a week ago....i like Kleberg County much more than Nueces County...if i had to live in Nueces, i would probably live in Agua Dulce or Chapman Ranch..
i have a friend who lives in Flour Bluff...it looks really nice to me, and very very close to Padre..she likes it.
welcome to South Texas! or should i say Bienvenido!

We are going to take a trip down there next weekend to see what's what. I am soooooooooooooooo ready to get out of Fredericksburg!!!

Anybody else care to share their opinion??? Please

p.s. one thing to get accustomed to, is the amount of Hispanics down here. i am originally from North Texas, so this is a bit of a culture shock....

Nah..that won't be a big difference.... Fredericksburg's a mix between Germans and Hispanics...so probably won't be that much of a shock.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

I've lived in the area for 7 yrs now and have visited it several times before I came, let me detail the towns for you.

Corpus is large 282,000 its growing slowly and about 50/50 anglo- hispanic. Some poor areas and some high crime.

Kingsville somewhat corrupt and poor.

Portland a typical suburb - fairly expensive good schools.

Ingleside mostly military - fairly nice.

Rockport - lots of ocean good schools doesnt feel like a suburb- very casual town, very safe

Taft -farming - the worst schools

Flour Bluff - mixed poor and wealthy - good schools with uniforms.

Aransas Pass - poor and cheap houses so so school.

Sinton farm community county seat of San Pat - avg school.

Having checked them all out , I chose Rockport and Im happy with it!

From just a quick glance Rockport looks nice...but I am thinking my husband wanted to be a bit closer to Corpus so that the job possibilities are bigger. What is the employment outlook for the Rockport area????
