I am also looking to move to the CC area. I was looking at Navigation Pointe or River Square apartments. Any advice as to whether it is a good location or not. I will be renting for a year and then plan on buying a home. I appreciate the help.

Navigation Pointe = not good area
River Square Apartments = nice area (considered the Annaville area), but unfortunately, while River Square apartments are pretty, they are "affordable housing" which is a huge downfall. I've had friends who've broken leases to get away from there which stinks because it's a good location/good schools.

I am not too familiar with either of the areas those apartments are in. I actually would choose either the South side -but that is personal preference. There are a lot of nice new apartments near Texas A&M -CC but a lot of it depends on where you will be working. The longest drive from one end of CC to another (excluding the island) is a half hour. I live on the South side and currently work downtown and it's about a 25 - 30 minute drive each way. It's a 15-minute drive off-hours.
If you have any others you are thinking about, let me know. I'd be glad to check the location out for you.

I wish there was a map that showed in colored blocks what area is what with names, so when locals go south side you know what they mean, or they say river square you know what area that is.

Well I have found that if you just go across the bridge to portland you dont seem to have as many problems with the neighborhoods. I am going to go to bridge point landing apartments. I like the school system plus it has been highly recommended to me by someone I will be working with. I agree with the colored map system.

If you're looking at a map, the "south side" is any area south of South Padre Island Drive (SPID) extending out to Saratoga and beyond. It's the main direction CC is growing in.

I think "River Square" is the name of an apartment complex rather than an area of town.

Indeed. River Square apartments are in the Annaville/Calallen area (78410).

Probably a lot easier to name the safer parts -- too many crappy areas to highlight.
