I'm tired of seeing this on the news. Baltimore is the 5th deadliest city and not one of the other 230ish murders took up 3 days worth of news. Enough is enough. My sympathy goes out to the families.

Columbia is not in Baltimore. It is a very affluent suburban community in Howard County, Maryand, surrounded by even more affluent communities. So of course this story is on the front page. It conflicts with our nation's deeply held belief that living and shopping in a "nice" community will protect us from random acts of violence. Nobody expects to witness a mass shooting on a Saturday morning trip to buy a fleece pullover at LL Bean.

I see your point but I agree with upinflamezzz. The media is just sensationalizing this. I mean this is clearly an isolated case. If this was a person that was a part of a gang or if he was this was some type of terror plot, then I can understand why this is a big deal, but this was a killing that just so happened to happen at a major shopping center. Let's not forget just last year, there was a double murder in the parking lot of Anne Arundel Mills which is about 10 minutes from where this happened. To me it seems like the media makes important what they want to be important. The life of these individuals is no more important than the lives lost in Baltimore. They are all tragedies.

Please understand that I am in no way trying to minimize the tragedy of any murder, but the time and place of this shooting is shocking. It was bound to be front page news.

People seem to keep dying in mall shootings.

Ban malls.

Keep in mind that Arundel Mills has a gambling casino which attracts crime, particularly robberies. The Anne Arundel County police department need to be more vigilant because of the casino.

There is no casino anywhere near Columbia mall, and this was not a robbery, as was the one in Arundel Mills and as are the great majority of the murders in Baltimore. I find it quite scary considering it took place in the town center of the second most affluent county in the country, in the most affluent region of our country, the perp had explosives and God only knows how many rounds of ammunition on him, and he had no police record and no mental health record.
