NO!!!!! I always pick up pennies when I see them. I take them home, put them in a jar until it's filled up, take it to coinstar...that's where my lottery ticket/casino cash comes from!

Maybe it would help if you learned a little history. Thomas Jefferson wrote that in the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. Furthermore when it was written he was still a citizen of the British Empire. It was clearly directed at the King meaning they no longer respected the difference between the nobility & commoners. The Constitution would not be written for a number of years after that.

Despite the fact that Jefferson owned slaves, when the USA was formed at least one state, Mass. considered that to mean that that slavery was abolished and moved to make it happen. A novel and new concept in a world where slavery had been accepted for 1000s of years. So IMO, you have unfairly demonized Jefferson over this.

The difference is that the native people killed each other without pretense. One tribe attacked another because they wanted their horses, or they wanted to hunt on their native lands, or they just wanted the honor of defeating them in battle.

If the European settlers had done the same thing - forcefully driven the Indians from their land without explanation or apology - it would just be an extension of what had been going on in North America for thousands of years, and your point would be well taken. But it didn't happen that way. The American government made promise after promise to the various tribes, then broke them, then took the land forcefully anyway.

I find it hard to respect that course of action, which Andrew Jackson epitomized. I think it would be appropriate to replace the image of Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with that of John Ross.

Or his great grand daughter Mary Golda Ross

Me like this Fox News argument for everything (h/t to Rudy Guiliani):

"Blacks are killing each other, so it's fine for white cops to kill them too!"
"Native Americans were killing each other, so it's fine for white folks to kill them too!"
"Armenians were killing each other, so it's fine for the Ottomans to kill them too!"
"Jews were killing each other, so it's fine for the Nazis to kill them too!"

What ever happened to "Thou Shalt Not Kill" thinggie? Is there a caveat for "if they can do it, so can we!!!".

Mick

Ironically, Andrew Jackson hated the idea of a private central bank. He's probably turning over in his grave now. lol
