I believe any topic is fair game for lively debate or rational conversation. Unfortunately, the vast majority of society is incapable of having a debate without getting emotionally invested or getting offended by those who disagree with them.

Pick any topic and you can find someone who will be offended by each side of the debate. Heck, I'm surprised "Pie vs Cake" hasn't started a riot yet. No matter how innocuous you think the topic is, there is someone out there willing to not only argue each side, but to argue it vehemently and with true passion about the subject.

The problem isn't that we are trying to be politically sensitive. A proper amount of political sensitivity is also known as "don't be an a** to other people". The problem is that everyone has decided that they have the right to be sensitive about things that were never insulting in the first place. Of course it is insulting and wrong to use racial slurs. They are meant to be insulting, that is their only purpose. But these days, people get personally offended if you say you prefer milk in your coffee, or you like to do your grocery shopping on Tuesdays.

If we are talking about having an intelligent conversation, then no, no subject is off limits, as far as I'm concerned. But damned few people are capable of such.

Also, going back to the original link. I'm not in favor of anything that pulls chocolate from the shelves. It sets a bad precedent. Next, Hershey's bars will be racially insensitive, and we might as well just blow up the planet at that point, since life isn't worth living without Hershey's.

Nothing should be "off limits" for discussion, rational or not (see Scientology for instance), but doing anything physical, including any form of harassment, is itself "off limits".

I think you need to look at yourself a little harder V8. You come on here and say that you think that all gays and democrats should be killed. That goes far beyond being a racist.

Everything is always on the table for discussion. At worst it may teach people something so nothing is off limits.

Although on a personal level there are topics I rarely discuss anymore because I already know I'm right and don't have the energy to continually try to skool people.
