In this case, she may have very well saved his life or at the very least kept him from being arrested. But I do have some issues with this.
1. Too many parents (and adults in general) use excessive violence to discipline kids. I wonder if she treated him like this often growing up. Violence begets violence!
2. There is definitely a double standard in society. Had this been his father, both would have probably ended up arrested.

I hope the kid learned a well deserved lesson.
I'm sorry but today too many parents DO NOT use anytime of physical discipline for their kids anymore. Back in the day you got your azz beat or at least a spanking and you KNEW not to do anything stupid or you KNOW whats coming. Now it's a verbal soft voice "No Johnny, don't do that" or a time out in the corner. GIVE ME A F-ING BREAK
No mom wants her child to be a criminal and loser. She did the right thing but really police shoud have opened up on all those savages. I write this as a man who has often defended Black Americans against excessive police force - but last night saw 5% genuine protests and 95% criminality.

You're taking my point to the extreme. I said too many adults use excessive violence. I agree it's ok sometimes, but I often see parents hit kids instinctively before even talking to them. Violence is violence.
Also want to state that I feel sorry for those middle class blacks who get judged by society by the actions of these fools. It really is more about class and education than race.
