I would call that an ineffective method of discipline. Cutting hair off? But Im not at all sure from reading the article that the suicide was linked directly to that incident. She sounded troubled.
I think that was 1 thing that led her to do this...... ITS VERY SAD and the father should be ashamed for doing this!!
UNFORTUNATELY....we "all" have to suffer for IDIOTS who are Parents to innocent children.
Morons "right around us" who have the Hugh responsibility of raising another human being.
He made a very bad decision----but probably has been getting away with this type of behavior for a long time. Hopefully, his wife will realize what a DICK he is...and lose him.
When I started reading this thread, I was horrified at the father's behavior and character. But, the more I read, the more doubt I had. Especially considering the caliber of some of the people posting attacks on the father. Now I'm wondering if maybe the father could have actually been the good guy in this incident. If he was aware of how much trouble it could cause for her to send naked pictures of herself, he might have been at his wit's end trying to find a way to motivate her to stop sending the pictures. In that state, he might have made the threat to cut her hair. A threat that was a mistake. But, once the mistake was made, he might have felt compelled to follow through, to avoid losing all respect, which might have made future discipline even harder.
OTOH, I probably shouldn't even be posting this, because I don't know any more than the rest of you do, and I'm just as full of it as most of you are. But this is what this kind of forum is for, is it not?
Most nuanced intelligent analysis I've read. Bravo.
Theres a lot more going on here. There are reports that the suicide had nothing to do with that head shaving incident and that it had to do with a naked picture she sent of herself.

HOW THE F DID SHE SOUND "TROUBLED?!"
By doing what teens nowadays unfortunately do? If this dad thinks it's "good parenting" to essentially cut off a part of her daughter's body, then yes, I'm sure 13 years of incidents like this "troubled" her.
THE MOST INHUMANE PARENTING TO A TEEN CHILD THAT I'VE SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME. I HOPE HE BURNS IN HELL AND ANY OF HIS "GOFUNDME" BS PROCEEDS SHOULD BE DONATED TO AN APPROPRIATE CHARITY.
I will never get this out of my head.

She sounded troubled because she was a young teen sending nudes over the attempts of her parents to get her to stop.
She sounded troubled because she wrote suicide notes saying so.
I'm not saying he should have cut her hair, but if she had been a teen caught posting nudes (and before the suicide) without the hair cutting somewhere on some forum another group of judgmental posters would be saying "where were the parents? Why didn't they punish her? How could they let this happen? parents need to step up... Blah blah blah.
