Just a quick point of reference per the central american influx of "refugee" children...

I lived for a spell about 10 years ago in a Chicago neighborhood called Albany Park, composed largely
of Central American immigrants..

There were gunshots often, many nights, all year.....My friend was stopped by a gang member and asked for his colors....being older and anglo, quite a stretch, to say the least, but that was the mentality...he was just going out for a pack of cigarettes....

The neighborhood was entirely gang infested.....even the Chicago police sold drugs in the back alleys(another story)......my point...the refugees are escaping GANGS by coming here?

They will mostly migrate to these type city areas......they are escaping nothing....

Escaping gangs and crime is no excuse to harbor refuge....we have millions of our own US Children dealing with the same....where is the refuge for them?

There's an old saw that no one really has a "happy" childhood: but given the growing diversity of our society, the disparity in incomes, the shifting dynamics which have diminished the prominence of the "traditional" or "nuclear" family, and most of all, the pervasive influence of the media, who know what they're selling or pushing, and who they're selling it to.

I don't think many people have a "normal" childhood either. Almost all the old rules have been discarded, and we simply have to adapt as best we can.

But it would be interesting to learn just who among the "spin doctors" worked hardest to advance this story, and with what purpose in mind.

2nd trick..interesting thoughts.....

I suppose you can look at the Abraham Maslow pyramid....

Create a base of physical needs and add love/stability to the same, is pretty much it...

What I am not getting is how mothers can send their children, escorted or not, by themselves, through Mexico, which they evidentally hitch freight trains to get through(and take a chance of getting crushed, raped, or shot in the process), THEN making it through the mexico, gang-invester border areas, THEN through the parched desert american southwest...

Am I understanding this?..And THEN take a chance of finding a relative or foster parent in a STRANGE country with no skills, and too young to work, without getting raped, ripped off, or abused?

I think this is just a way for mothers, who evidentally have sperm donor fathers, to get rid of their kids..

El Salvador alone, a tiny country the size of San Fransisco, had 378 murders in June alone, that dwarfs any American city by far.

I would think you're going through that would make you more empathetic to the plight of these children, but you seem to feel they're just not tough enough like you were, is that it??

It would appear this thread is intended to remove the classification of refugee from these children, and skew one into believing their being sent to become gang members. It smells of a political ideal being pushed in a current events topic forum.

I think we have only been given half the story when it comes to these "children" considering some of them are in their 20's and sporting tattoos.
The fear of many conservatives and anyone with common sense is what is going to happen to these actual kids when the money to house, feed, clothe, educate and entertain them runs out, which it will. We need to worry about our own kids and our own country before we can help the world.
The problem there and here is poverty and desperation. The only thing that can help that is HOPE. These kids have a long hard road ahead of them and the American citizen is once again required to make room in our hearts, backyards and our wallets by emptying them out.
The real problem is drugs because that fuels the violence.
What is the answer?

My friend is a medical director for a facility in Texas that has had to treat these people. They screened 600 our of the 64,000 and 87 tested positive for TB. ALSO Mr Willy's, she said that 84 percent are males 15-19 yrs old (or so they claim) and they have facial hair and gang tattoo's. Also, they do not even speak Spanish. They speak a form of Indian from the villages they come from and they do not know how to use the bathooms. So they go and relieve themselves wherever they want and this leads to more risk of disease spreading amongst them.

We are paying $120-$1000 per day per person for care. That doesn't bother you?

She said they were specifically threatened that if anyone takes pics of these men, they will be fired.

So these little cutie pics of the kids that we keep seeing were the ones the media is allowing us to see.

I have a friend who is older. He is white and lives in Costa Rica. He just completed a 1 month trip ALONE to Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala. He said there was not the danger that the media is using as their propaganda. He also said that he met many girls in their 20's who traveled alone through the same areas. Don't say " oh he went as a tourist because he walked, took busses, cabs, etc. He even rode in the back of a chicken farmers truck for 12 yrs.

In Costa Rica he is having another home built and the builder is a MAN from Nicaragua. He quit before my friend took off on his trip. Reason? He told my friend that he and 6 other guys were moving to the US because Obama said get here "pronto". These are men, not little cute children. They were told the message is out that they will get "total care" by Obama and they don't have to work.

Don't defend this unless you have facts. Scott, the OP is correct and you sir should be talking to your congress demanding them stop this. WE the tax payer will pick up the tab for these people for their entire family.

You have to love closed minded ideals, and the fear used to scare the sheep. Our country has been welcoming immigrants since its inception. The above post is almost perfect rhetoric in an election year about an issue that was passed by the party the poster supports. Take action in congress and get the job done then, and don't try and blame your mistakes on others.

Immigration to the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I like the idea that we should now turn people away. It reminds me of the no growth advocates where I lived in California. Now that I'm here we shouldn't build anymore houses. Only in this case we want to limit who we allow in. Of course we shouldn't allow criminals in like the Italian, Irish, Russian, Asian, and Muslim mafia like we've done for more than 100 years.

This is just another political issue that shouldn't be in this forum.

With all due respect Mr Willy, we have about 30 million illegals' in this country. Tell me when we had 30 million in the country at the country's inception? Also, when our ancestors came here they learned the language, loved the country and worked 2 and 3 jobs to provide for themselves. These people are coming here knowing they will not have to work and will get welfare, food stamps, medical, housing and we have AMERICANS hungry and homeless. We are not in the position to pay for more than we already are now.

53 % of people in the country are getting assistance from the tax payer. 47% work but how many of those aren't paying taxes. So it shifts the burden on us.

We are the ONLY country that people can pour over the border and be welcomed and taken care of for the rest of their lives. It's too bad we don't do that for Seniors and Vets.

Any economist will tell you, that we can't keep doing this. This economy cannot carry this burden.

It has nothing to do with closed minds. Actually it is the closed minds that are saying we can afford this.

This is not political. I didn't see anyone talk about a party affiliation, I see it as an American Security issue.
