Why? What Kathryn posted was not racist in any way.
When you are on the losing side of a discussion that is a good technique to use to exit.. Using the Race card is like using the Hilter card, or the [insert unsavory label here] card. It is the opposite of the what would Jesus/John Wayne/Chuck Norris/Capt. Kirk do moment.
It is interesting how many folks in this thread do not actually know how much authority an officer has over them in a traffic stop. Maybe this information should be in the traffic school curriculum.
The cop's own superiors have said he handled the situation unprofessionally. The point isn't whether he could order her out of her car, it's whether he should have.
And none of that diminishes the fact that she had a record. It's relevant. Pattern of behavior, as Kathryn said.
"Punishable by death." She killed HERSELF. If she was suicidal, she could have killed herself at any time regardless of this incident. You don't just suddenly decide to kill yourself.
You conveniently ignored most of what I said..you know, the stuff about the jailers negligence? But hey victim shaming is almost a full time job for some of you- so don't let me get in the way of your fun

Your statement has nothing to do with my point which is correct as many folk here are simply ignorant as to how much authority a LEO has over them in a traffic stop.

The police can lawfully order you out of your vehicle in a terry stop. If you refuse to comply with that lawful order you will be forcibly removed. Pick 1.
Yes, however, he illegally extended the stop when he failed to advise her that she was free to go once he had handed her back the warning and her license. He also never ordered her to put out her cigarette (he requested), and did not order her out of the car (he requested) until she refused to get out when he asked her, then he yanked open her door and started to pull her out. He did not follow protocol, he deliberately antagonized her, in other words, he handled the situation badly, outside of his departments guidelines, and he also lied about and omitted some of his actions both to his supervisor and on his report. I have previously posted links to these bolster these statements.
Generally she is one of the more logical posters on CD but on this topic for some reason she left the reservation.
Does she has a relative or a close friend in law enforcement? Guess in some cases, that would leave you closed minded about encounters with police. Police are human, after all and can snap at any time. I imagine as so many have said, after what they have seen and dealt with in their careers and lifetimes; they become immune to so many things, sad to say.
Once, when I was on a jury, the judge informed us to keep an open mind and look at all the witnesses as if they had no clothes on. WHAT? That was so strange! Once, this police officer came to the witness stand and opened his mouth, bam!! I understood. What a piece of work he was. That is why I say, just because an officer has a uniform and a badge, does not make them always right.
I so agree, hold your temper and your emotions, when you are stopped for a traffic incident. The old yes sir, or yes mam......goes a long way. (or Don't say anything, or make any movements that may cause the officer to be on guard.)
Still the bottom line is, Sandra should not have been arrested and she should have been on suicide watch. Why was that plastic bag in the cell? This injustice can never be right for Sandra. She was only 28. She had a new job. She was a beautiful person, that had some really bad times. Sandra was trying to make a new life for herself.
Since when did the United States become a police state? What did she do? Was the turn signal working properly? She did not cause ANY injuries except to a couple of egos; no one had to die. I would not like my children or grandchildren or anyone to be treated as horribly as Sandra was. She was a human being, not a deranged animal. I am really sick and tired of some police officers treating people so savagely.
What is so ironic, the cameras are rolling and they still keep up their cruel and sadistic ways. Is this ever going to change? At least we can still talk about it. More needs to be done. More training, different hiring policies, we are not all criminals; quit treating everyone like we are criminals. What happened to innocent until PROVEN guilty???
If you were in a wrestling match would you want your opponent to be flailing around with a lit cigarette?
You hear a lot about psychology when someone shoots up a recruiting station in Tennessee and the shooter is Muslim. Not so much when the person who very well may have issues is black.
So let me see if I got this right. It's dangerous to smoke while you are wrestling and this has something to do with the recruiting station shooting
