Why? Seriously, why the f**k not? There goes any chance that anyone will ever do the right thing even if it's "illegal" in the future. Better off just keeping your gun in the holster whilst the terrorist slaughters your brothers in arms rather than facing the school marmish military CoC. I hope one day that some of you are placed in a situation where doing the right and moral thing is illegal.
You don't actually have to wait. Some of the same posters in this thread, a certain officer to be specific has advocated a zero tolerance approach when it comes to putting people in jail for using marijuana even if they are using it for legitimate medical purposes like saving a young child from having multiple daily seizures. Or claiming that even if a police officer is violating your rights, it is best to just comply in order to not get killed.

It is only the intersection of jingoism and the gun culture that brings out the chest thumping rules don't matter stuff from these people.

+1.

People here must also think that the CEO of a corporation decides what kind of routers to use in the office, and what kind of yellow mustard to stock in the company cafeteria.

Do you think President Obama is making these decisions at this stage? It is commendable that you wish to assign blame to him for anything and everything (including his terrible decision to make the earth round), but keep in mind that there are things that are below his pay scale such as most stuff you complain about.

He was responsible for making sure that an army deserter was traded for terrorist, so why not?

Well, that one he was fully in the loop on. Gee, I hope so.

He's lucky he got his pension considering what he himself could have been charged with.
I've noticed that West is popping up more the past couple of weeks. Translation -- he's going to run for something again.

The most surprising part from the linked article was this:

Reports said one of the murdered Marines, armed with his own personal 9mm Glock, possibly engaged the shooter as well.

So since we're all here to take cheap shots on the backs of four tragic deaths, let me take mine. You mean owning and even firing your weapon in self defense failed to save the life of the owner? How does this development fit into the narrative that giving everyone a gun will save lives because the criminals can't possibly win.

Have you looked at the statistics of police hitting a target when they engage a bad guy? If you do that will answer your question.

Let me put a point to that, if nobody has done so yet.

Allen West, as an Army lieutenant colonel, also broke military regulations and ended his own military career when he illegally threatened the life of a prisoner in order to gain information. The situation was understandable and the Army went as easy as possible on him; West was given Non-Judicial Punishment and permitted to retire honorably. But that was enough of a message for everyone else.

The military cannot have officers flagrantly violating regulations without consequence. That must not happen--if officers can do it, anyone can do it. Discipline and order in the ranks would break like glass. As a senior NCO, I'd be absolutely incensed if officers got away with crimes--yes, crimes--that I would be bound to see my troops burned for committing.

The military often decides to charge people or not, merely breaking a rule does not automatically invite a judicial or nonjudicial punishment.
Only if it were something that never got publicity.
