Marriage between two men and two women has been possible for quite awhile now in several states. See people abusing that?
Two men, but not three men. Two women, but not five women and fifteen men. SSM is limited to one legal marriage partner at a time, just as opposite sex marriage is.
BTW, I'm still hoping you will answer my question. Why is it that you believe no one will enter a poly marriage for health insurance or tax reasons? You also stated that no one will enter a straight marriage for those reasons. Yet I believe plenty of people have and continue to marry for financial reasons. Others choose to not marry for financial reasons. Why wouldn't people choose to act in their own best interests?

Exact same thing, the dollar amount is divided by the number of spouses.
It's not rocket science.
Won't work- go back and read my post #124. If Jim Bob has 15 kids that's 15 "aid to dependent children" amounts. If those kids were spread across 3 families- e.g. one wife per husband, then if something happened to Jim Bob there would be fewer kids to cover. You can't just "divide the number by the number of spouses" because the number is dependent on the number of minor children one has.
A man marrying several women (or men), and a woman marrying several men (or women) is not complicated.
The trouble arises when there are kids, assets, separations, divorces, alimony, child support etc. If the union doesn't work, how are the legal issues handled. What if a man has four wives and divorces two of them? What do the wives get? How would a prenup work for an athlete or businessman with several wives?
And we are assuming he/they are employed and self sufficient. One issue with polygamy is that most often the wives are not employed and receiving government benefits. Will polygamist families be eligible for welfare benefits. if only two of the 5 spouses are working and they have 12 kids between them they would fall under the poverty guidelines, so EPT for 17 people along with all the other available benefits. And talk about tax deductions and redistribution.
Yeah, what if dad bales? Think he is going to keep up child support for all those kids. Custody/visitation arrangements would be a nightmare. What if two wives divorce are the other two wives on the hook for his child support?
