Historically, humans hunted the passenger pigeon to extinction, and came very close to doing so also with the American bison and the blue whale …

So, yes … No doubt there is some rich dufus somewhere who would be eager to pay big $$$ to shoot the last lion ...

Seriously? With modern management practices, lions are in no danger of extinction. They might fall prey to poachers which may end their species, but managed legal sport hunting never will.

Never underestimate human ingenuity …

"Honestly … !!! I had no idea … !!! I thought it was all totally legal and above board … !!! Really … !!! … [*wink*wink*] …)

After all, "managed legal sport hunting" resulted in the unwarranted murder of "Cecil," yes … ???

Yes, seriously …

Aren't all these Cecil threads full of information about how it was actually an illegal hunt?

But, anyway …

"Managed legal sport hunting" may not in fact be such a great deal for the animal population in question …

see: "Science," 21 August, 2015, pp. 784-85 … A Most Unusual (Super)Predator: Effects of Human Hunting and Fishing Differ Fundamentally from Those of Other Predators, by Boris Worm ...

("Science," published weekly by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, is one of a handful of premier scientific journals, globally … I have been a member of the biology section of The AAAS bio 40+ years …)

Some idiots just want those deer and bears to over populate and die a grieving death...

That is why they limit the amount of tags that are issued, but if you knew what you were talking about, most people do research and will not parrot bull crap unless they actually research....

Some idiots just refuse to do research....
