Just as without "up" there can be no "down", or without "good" there would be no concept of "evil", validating the idea of a "hate crime" implies there must also be such a thing as a "love crime". Yet I've never heard of it.

Rape is never "ok," by definition. But the definition of rape changes. Today, it's rape if the woman was intoxicated or regrets it 22 year later. That would have been laughed out of the room in the recent past.
And society continues its downward spiral. Soon sex with family members and animals will be considered normal. But why stop there? Soon murder will be legal and rape.

Would you laugh if a grown man told you he had been raped when he was a child?
You would say he should've told someone at the time it happened, and since he didn't tell anyone, he's just making it up for attention, right?
Once pedophilia is paraded out as "normal" - even by a far left rag like Salon - the idea will eventually gain traction and it will be promoted as normal and acceptable and "rights" will be demanded. Look what happened with homosexuality. A couple of decades ago it was still in the closet as a sexual deviancy and now millions of people have proudly announced their same sex attraction. The same thing will happen with pedophilia. Just give it time.
Sexualizing children against their will (which ipso de facto is ANY sexual contact with a child, regardless of any perceived acquiescence), which is a CRIME, can never be compared to two adults doing whatever they want in their own bedrooms amongst themselves. These comparisons are knee-jerk, hideously twisted, and cheapen the real crime of pedophilia.
I am also a liberal, and I would NEVER allow pedophilia to become acceptable. I have yet to meet a liberal that would even espouse such a thing. All homosexuals, defined as ADULTS, simply want the SAME rights and protections as anyone else, and not have their jobs taken away, their benefits snatched, etc., simply because someone can't handle their adult relationships.
Why are conservatives, who believe that someone should be judged on their own merits and not because of their race etc., somehow always twist this argument when it comes to homosexuals??That we should judge people on who they sleep with, that because of this they are not entitled to the same rights as a straight person? It isn't as if homosexuals are asking for special dispensation.And, if you guys espouse less government, then why are you proposing MORE, intruding into people's bedrooms? Intruding on their private relationships? As long as those relationships are between two consenting adults, it is simply, none of your business, and never bloody was.
The Supreme Court voted, so get over it. This is America. This is what we do here- freedom. Freedom meaning actions that hurt no one, between consenting adults. If you want to equate that with child rape, I really suggest you know nothing about pedophilia nor adult sexual behavior at all.
