They will have no effect. They will be chasing their tails because as soon as one account gets hacked another will pop up. About all they can do is go after social media and email accounts, but ISIS is using encryption so Anonymous will have a tough time. BTW, if they hack ANY public sites like that of social media or email they broke the law, never mind a financial institution. I say go for it, but they will end up getting themselves into trouble. Another thing is that experts believe ISIS might be using PS4's and the Sony network to communicate and that is heavily encrypted, Anonymous will never touch them unless they infiltrate the group and have an operative on the inside.

If Anonymous can reveal those donating to and supporting ISIS cause discreetly, that alone would be a win. Dropping bombs on ISIS doesn't seem to be working either. ISIS is decentralized, attacking them head on isn't gonna do much. Best way to go after them is to disrupt their communications.

Well, they'll have something productive to do with their time.
If they can't help, at least they won't be vandalizing stuff.

listing all of the reasons they won't be effective is useless. We hear the cry all the time, "If it saves one child..." Why can't this be just as good? If Anonymous were to disrupt one account, be it social media or banking, or whatever, how is it a bad thing?

If Anonymous is sincere in their statement, I am behind them all the way. However, much like the SPLC or the ACLU, I may not agree with everything they do. I hope Anonymous give ISIS all manner of hell. Script kiddies or not, we should be glad to have someone trying. I'd even offer my seriously-lacking processor power if I wouldn't be charged with a crime down the road. A little bit is better than no bit.

I would be careful what I loaded on my computer from anywhere. There are a few mods for games I play that people download and install from Russia. I am always perplexed why someone would take this chance. It may be safe but it may not.

I can't believe it, but I actually agree with you for once. This point is right on the money.

I would worry if there was someone I NEVER agreed with. That would probably mean there was something wrong with me.

I'm safe as long as I don't download Russian porn, right?

One interesting thing I saw last night was that ISIS was using online games and PS4's to communicate. I assume at least some of this is via apps like teamspeak. I am not sure how these kids are going to disrupt this.

You have not offered any realistic way they will have an effect on ISIS either.

This is my counterpoint to your argument:

Anonymous retreats from Mexico drug cartel confrontation | Technology | The Guardian

It is the most similar project to going after ISIS. Nothing ever came of it.
Here ya go: Anonymous Script Kiddies Begin Their Tinkering.

Oh and did you really use the security of Sony as a "for instance" regarding uncrackable systems?

Well there are generally don't agree with certain posters, that's what I meant.
