Everything. Too many people fought and died for our rights to just willy nilly take them away from those who SOME think don't deserve them whenever we feel like it. Either they mean something or they mean nothing and those who died for them died for nothing. Move if you want to live in a country where rights and freedoms can be given and taken at a whim.
You think a criminal record for drug offenses and repeated finding of unfitness to have custody of her own children classifies as a "willy-nilly" denial of rights?
Charity though churches might work if 80% or more of Americans actually gave money to their churches.
Only about 45% of Americans go to church more than once a year. If you darken a church's doorway only for Christmas and Easter, I doubt you're a big financial contributor. Of those, maybe 20% go weekly or close to it. Maybe half again actually donate to a church less than that actually tithe the customary amount. I'd guess the number of American households that give anything significant to church is around 10-15% at best.
Church Attendance as of 2010:
I doubt it's improved much in the last 5 years.
There's no way churches can make much of a dent in poverty with that level of participation. Most donations to your church go to keeping the church open and its meager staff paid. It's remarkable they do what they do for charity with so little.
I tried to paste link above, but this sad story is a frank illustration of how welfare benefits are abused. Woman has spent her entire life on benefits. She has never been gainfully employed. Sec 8 pays her rent, even after her kids have been removed. Her alcoholic baby daddy lives with her illegally. She receives cash for her "disability" of addiction, which she of course uses to buy drugs. She converts food stamps into money for drugs. She illegally rents out rooms in her sec 8 apt to dealers, in exchange for drugs. She refuses inpt drug rehab, out of fear of losing her sec 8 voucher. Even though she has lost custody of all her many previous children, she has not gotten sterilized, and dcf lets her keep and neglect yet another two. It took dcf 4 or 5 years to finally remove these last two kids. Can you imagine at what risk of molestation they were put when mother sublet rooms to her dealers? And of course dcf is working on family reunification for this mother and her neglected children.
This story has been told a million times. Unfortunately, for the woman in the article the time to help her and intervene has long passed. While she and every other addict still has a chance to kick addiction, after so many years it will be near impossible.
When she first presented with mental health issues and or addiction issues that was the time to intervene and help. Considering her age when she first presented that help probably wasn't available, but it is available now and society should take notice.
Addiction is a disease recognized by the American Medical Assoc and until society see's it as a disease (as serious as cancer) very little will change.
One way or another society at large is going to pay for her addiction. That may be in the form of medical help, food stamps, or prison, but we are going to pay.
I do find it hard to believe that treatment of addiction would be more expensive than the other options. I'm sure prison costs $100 per day at least.

As I have pointed out with regard to pregnancy among the underclass there are no real recreational activities or other constructive activities available for young adults. Thus the move towards substance and sexual abuse. Idleness breeds experimentation.

There is no relationship between molestation and drug dealing. That is absurd. Clearly she is an unfit mother, but don't make up crimes to fit your stereotypes.
The skills drug dealing acquired drug dealing are quite transferable to Banking and other industries.
Are you really going to give a drug dealer a discretionary job with other people's money?
