I believe when you choose to go contrary to the conventional wisdom on something as serious as your child's health and welfare, you are suggesting to all and sundry that you are prepared to stand by your convictions and suffer the consequences should it later be proven you chose badly.

This child was sacrificed on the alter of arrogance. The parents should be punished to the fullest extent of the law to discourage others from shooting craps with their progeny's well being.

HELL NO.

Murder calls for 25-life ... and since both were involved ... conspiracy to commit murder, another 20 ... with zero time off for 'good behavior' and an automatic extension for 'bad behavior'. And do not trivialize murder by calling it an "error in judgement". That leads to all murderers saying, "Ooops, my bad!"

Yes. What part of this is difficult to understand? When a human being issues forth and takes his first breath he is his own person.

I think people are confusing anti-vax beliefs with these folks simply not taking their child for treatment. Parents were stupid, no doubt. Meningitis is not a disease that will be "brought back" by anti-vaxers. It's never gone away, and won't. Meningitis can be bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic, non-infectious, ect... . It's not one specific disease controlled by vaccinations, though there are certain vaccinations for some meningitis infections. It's often a secondary infection brought on when someone is already sick. Where these parents failed was trying to "treat" what is a serious infection with maple syrup and whatever else they did. I'm absolutely pro-vaccination, but in this certain case we're talking about parents who did not take care of an already sick child.

Yep. Oh my gosh. Remembering when my kid was sick when she was little. Two weeks? Loons.

What parent in their right mind, when they hear the word "meningitis" would hesitate to get their child to a hospital immediately? Bacterial meningitis can progress very quickly; delaying treatment by even one day can mean the difference between life and death.

Medical examiner testifies cause of toddler's death was meningitis

Ezekiel died from a bacterial lung infection which spread to his brain and caused meningitis. In his age group, the two most likely organisms to do that are streptococcus pneumoniae and hemophilus influenzae B, both of which are preventable with vaccines.

For the record, you do not give a baby a meningitis vaccine. It's not suggested until 11 years. That is straight from the CDC.
