I see no valid reason to continue with daylight savings time. Here in Boston, now that the clocks were set back an hour, it will depressingly be dark before 5PM. The # of hours of daylight doesn't change, and I think it would be much less depressing to have the sun rise a little later in the AM then setting earlier in the PM. By afternoon I'm still up and ready to go, and losing 1 hour of light during my active time sucks. But in the morning I just don't notice that extra hour of light as anything meaningful.
Couldn't we save a lot more energy by not having it? If people aren't turning on all there lights until 6 pm vs 5 pm that's a lot of energy saved. Where as people will be asleep anyway in the morning (or at work).
I agree 100% but I think the Gov can fine you if you don't comply

Reasons and ideologies change, and when DST was first established at that time it at least had a stated purpose. Can anyone prove any cost savings with DST? Is there any economic value to it? And am I the only one who believes there is a large negative psychological effect with DST that would outweigh any perceived benefits?
I cannot fathom any valid reason to currently have it. And why did Arizona get rid of DST?
Several decades ago (1974-75) , there was a year when the clocks did not change. What happened then was that little children were walking to and waiting for the school buses in pitch black . Parents freaked out and so ended that experience with daylight savings.
Most kids, at least where I live, are not picked up in front of their homes but on various stops. In the very dark, no one felt safe.
I absolutely hate my kids standing at the bus stop in the morning in the dark when our area doesn't have street lights because of a city-wide "dark skies" ordinance. Changing the clocks allows them to be at the bus stop in the light. It's very dangerous walking there in the dark with cars potentially not paying attention.
Apparently it has nothing to do with farmers. Benjamin Franklin and others wanted to save energy. Sounds like during WWII the clocks were set ahead by two hours in Britain! Sounds like NOBODY likes setting the clocks back but it also sounds like there's no good rationale for not setting them back. The only reason would be that most of us just HATE it.
We've got to come up with a really good reason or we'll be stuck with this early darkness forever!
There's a movement to have schools start later in the morning because kids aren't getting enough sleep. If schools started later maybe that would solve it?
