It appears to be a case of homelessness. The kids had scouts and other things they did. They aren't sure about homeschooling yet. There are people sticking up for the family.
I think possibly the family is just doing the best they can in extreme conditions. Not sure why they didn't live in the travel trailer rather than the box. I think there are worse ways to live. Hopefully, these are loving parents who will do better as they get more help.
I think there is going to be more to this story. One article I read stated that the father lived in the trailer, mother and children lived in the "box". A neighbor stated that people move out there (no water, no electricity) to get off of the grid. Being poor isn't a crime. This doesn't look like a simple case of poverty to me.

True. There may be something else going on. We will see. The kids were not entirely excluded from society like some of the abused children we hear about. That is a good sign.
I don’t know. There’s a difference between “We are homeless because we are down on our luck and haven’t gotten assistance but we're doing our best" and living in a box with 30-40 cats, piles of human feces and trash everywhere, no running water or utilities."
Maybe these people shouldn’t have their children taken and be sent to jail, but there’s more going on here.
Why in the world would they have 40 cats? They obviously cannot take care of themselves or their children. Why take on the added burden. Something is missing here.
There were piles of human feces around the "box" the kids and Mom slept in. No one could be bothered to dig a latrine at a safe distance? No one's ever heard of hepatitis A?
What must it be like inside that trailer?
Hopefully at least the 40 cats were removed from that tiny travel trailer and given a chance at a new life or have gotten the medical treatment they need.
I think the friends and neighbors defending them are just as batty as they are.
Agree. This is not the same situation as from a few weeks back with the kids being chained & tortured. This is a homeless situation. But, you have to do better than the way these people were living. Get rid of the clutter, clean the place up, dig a latrine and use it. Geez.
I couldn't have said it better myself. I'd like to add how much we spend on wars and their machines too.
Oh Yes, those killing machines. $$$$
