I was reading about how NBC humiliated itself by the crappy New Year's Eve broadcast from Times Square. They didn't show the ball drop, the hosts were lame and outright weird, even the weather was against them.
There is jerks in every country, I only met two Canadians in my life and both of them were rude. I guess I could say by the logic that since they were obnoxious all Canadians are obnoxious.
Many Japanese bars don't allow Americans to enter.
Over there when you see trash on the ground it's from Americans. No respect.
Oh come on, this has nothing to do with Americans and I am guessing you know this. Many Japanese don't allow GAIJIN to enter there establishments. Gaijin are non-Japanese, particularly westerners but essentially anyone that is not ethnic Japanese. It has nothing to do with Americans. Japan is somewhat of a xenophobic culture.
I have been embarrassed numerous times in foreign countries by my fellow Americans. So many are rude, obnoxious and arrogant.
Does anyone in this thread like, actually, travel? Or are they all picking up on anecdotes.
I'm embarrassed as well. But it's important to note, as this thread seems to be going in that direction, that Americans have long been surpassed by other nationalities in the "rudest traveler" surveys for the last decade or so. That's last century stereotype. Times have changed. Chinese for one, as they seem to not yet understand cultural norms of pleasantry with there fellow man. I travel quite a bit, I can safely say it's not your fellow Americans being rude.
I had a few survey's linked in a post in the travel forum last year so I have to find it, but as I remember the Chinese were always first, followed by Russians, followed by Germans, and then Brits (why Brits I have no idea, maybe the soccer hooliganism faction, why Germans? no idea, maybe the site of a fat middle aged German in a speedo is enough, why Russians? One word - Vodka).
Yes I have and my experience has been with a lot of rude Americans. I'm not saying others are not rude but in my experience it has been the Americans.
I daughter was on a train is Asia and a group from Europe started harassing her because she was a American and a group of Asian women surrounded her to protect her.
Americans are the only ones we can mock without being verbally and physically attacked.
Yeah, you have a point there.
