We are leaning towards cremation. But I am not burdening my loved ones with demands to be scattered any place special. And I can’t imagine my ashes being kept in an urn in someone’s home. Any ideas about easy but respectful disposal?

Covered in composting material? whoa!! you'd think it would stink to high heavens for quite a while. I can't see that they would decompose very quickly.
Just where would this "composting" take place?
You sure wouldn't want a child or adult to wander along and innocently step into a horrible mess of human remains. It would have to be kept properly fenced, and then we would be right back into a cemetery situation again.

In a nice out-of-the-way part of a forest in a park, or out in the country down a quiet lane? (they'd have to do it discreetly-might be unlawful) OR, how about in your flower beds or on top of a grassy hill overlooking your hometown? There shouldn't be anything too hard about that for your loved ones.
I want to be sprinkled into my flower beds at my cottage.
We poured our brother's ashes off a bridge into a river that ran past what used to be my grandmother's house. We spent countless hours playing on her property and fishing down near that river so it had significant meaning to all of us.
Well lol it didn't take long for the righteous I'm not going to be buried in a coffin, so neither should you crowd to show up and try to lord it over everyone else.
We can't even friggin' die without these busybody scolds minding our business.

Is it terrible that this made me laugh out loud? I got to "and then we would be right back into a cemetery situation again"...snort laughed, almost spit out my tea.

No one is saying YOU shouldn’t. Just stating THEIR personal preference. Sounds like you’re the one doing the scolding here.
